Rusty wrote:For Josh: it's possible to reinstall windows without formatting I did it somehow when I was trying to format my computer because it refused to format lol.

I did that, too. Apparantly, the same problem, too. (my computer refused to reformat, I mean). I just went googling to find out how.

My dad had to borrow a start up disk from a friend at work that fixed it up.

Holy crap I've run into a problem. I get this thing it says: LSA Shell (Export Version), if I click any choice a countdown of a minute comes on and it shuts down my computer. I found a get around it, but I'm sure I have a worm, from what I read. The only problem is I can't find any way to get rid of it. Does anyone know? I am so pissed, I finally gave up on wireless and hard wired it to the ethernet. I think I might need to activate my firewall that comes with xp now that I have no router. Does anyone know how I do that? This sucks.

Sasser worm? That's what I found when I searched for that, anyway... try reading this:

Thanks. I installed it and it said no infection detected. I wonder if there is a new version floating around out there. Gr.

Ok, I have a series of questions.
How do I reformat? I reinstalled the OS but alas, I still have the sasser worm.
Is McAfee an annual fee? Cause my roommate has had hers for three years and it still seems to be scanning her computer and she doesn't have problems with viruses.
Nikki, where do you get all those plugins for winamp? I want to just have winamp and get rid of everything else. Except Windows Media, since it just comes with the computer.

Formatting clears your harddrive of everything, so you're gonna want to back everything up to cd or someone else's harddrive before you do it.
The plugins can be found pretty easily on either Winamp's site or a Google search... just search for whatever file extension you wanna play along with "plugin" and some should pop up.

The good thing about having two drives is having your OS on one and everything else on the other. That way you can reformat easy and lose nothing.

Yup yup! Unless you're like me and have waaaaaaaaaay too much crap on that other drive to fit onto the OS drive.

Formatting my computer suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks.

Except stupid programs that automatically install to my main drive and don't even ask!
Hey, how do you get rid off the programs in the "quick launch" thing in the bottom right hand corner of xp? They just go there, and it takes my computer FOREVER to boot up with them.
