Rad is a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle word, thank you very much.
I would like to make that group. First off, I would go to my local indie record shop and kick the shit out of half the people there, because they have no idea what good music is. These are the people that listen to what MTV tells them to. They see Saves The Day on there, then they start listening to other Vagrant bands, then they find themselves listening to bands off of obscure labels and talking shit about those "sellouts" on Vagrant records for being on a somewhat well-known indie label. If not for the fact that I practically live at this record store, I would boycott it, but I can't. It's the only place that sells cds that I want, short of buying them online.

blah.
Its the most pointless thing ever to go around and say a band isnt emo. just because you dont like a band, or think you know more about the genre than anyone else, doesnt give you the right to disquallify other people's music. anything even somewhat closely related to the whole "emo" thing can be called emo by whoever wants to call it emo. as Jeff said earlier emo is short for "emotional" and if music gives you the right emotions and has the right effect on you while listening, go ahead and call it emo. who cares. Just dont put it down because its too mainstream or doesnt have enough screaming, or whining, or anything else for you....

hey. we should start a lobby group against scenster jackasses. we could get the government to pass leglislation against long greasy hair, jawing about how great vinyl is, going on "sellout" witch hunts and pretending to actually like ugly casanova.
it would be rad.
i never knew soldier could be used as a verb

Saves The Day is on an indie label. That makes them an indie band. That's how it works out. And as fucked up as it seems, New Found Glory is indie too, even though they really have all of that MCA money pumped into promoting their music.
Emo is just a stupid buzzword slapped on music that is gaining popularity to give this specific time period a title. Last time I checked no one in the 80s called The Cure, Morrisey, or The Smiths emo, yet they played, for the most part, the same kind of music as the "emo" bands of today. Hell, The Cure have some incredibly emotional lyrics, yet no one calls them emo.
For the most part, just ignore the emo title. All music brings out emotions in you, or else it would be shitty music. Call it indie rock, rock, music, whatever, if people have a problem with the buzzword, then just ignore it. It's incredibly easy.

'Rad' was around before the TMNT. It was the name of a GREAT BMX movie back in the 80s called "RAD"

I love that movie. It was also used by hippee folk too. so yah.. that's all i have to say. Does anyone HAVE Rad or where it could be bought? I still have visions of that movie, like the amazing BMX track at the end

hehehe I'm a nerd.
