OK, I am going to try and classify the bands you listed up above.
MTV Emo- Saves The Day and Dashboard Confessional. The reason they got so much attention was that Rich Egan paid a lot of money to get their videos played on MTV. Their music was just catchy enough to get a solid fan base, and inevitably, get played on TRL.
Screamo - Thursday. Other bands like Finch and at times, Alkaline Trio can be classified here. They have what people call "emo" lyrics, but they use screaming in a majority of their songs to get their point across. The screaming soon becomes what the band is best known for.
Pure emo - Bright Eyes. If you're into emo music, it doesn't get much better than this. It's right down to the roots of emo. It's hard to get into, seems to be overly whiney, and people usually shy away from it without hearing a large amount of their music. It's hard to find other bands like Bright Eyes, but a band like Elliott could pass off as pure emo.
Emo rock - Taking Back Sunday, Brand New, Alkaline Trio. I couldn't think of a better name, so this is what it gets called from now on. They sound like a punk band, but have classic "emo" lyrics. They tend to have multiple people that can be lead singers. Their songs aren't the most inventive, but hey, it's good music.
Rockabilly - Hot Water Music. I can't really descirbe this band. They're great, that is all I can say. They tend to use fall offs with the vocals, they have many people singing in the chorus, and the music seems kind of heavy/harsh, but good music nonetheless.
I tried my bestest at classifying music. I haven't really heard Coheed & Cambria before, so I can't classify them. Hopefully you can after my attempt at different categories of emo.

Another good rockabilly band = Tiger Army. Power of Moonlite and Annabel Lee =

Yes, I knew I forgot to add a band I listen to extensively. I have a slew of their songs on my computer and I love them.

OK Steph, you downloaded a mislabeled song. It is a cover song of Alkaline Trio's "Radio." Remember in the summer I tried to make you like that song? Well, it strikes again...muahahah

Yeah, doesn't he have the deepest, scratchiest, harshest voice ever? Get Rooftops, and be prepared to be scared....I can't believe you downloaded a cover of an Alkaline Trio song.

Maybe my influence hit you 5 months too late?

Ya know, I was getting my hopes up that you'd start to break down and like the music I listen to. Well, thanks for crushing it in the beginning!

screamo and emo rock bands are by far the worst bands i have ever seen live. Listening to both Finch and Taking Back Sunday were painful b/c you can see that the music was digitally enhanced on the CD.
never seen AK3 but they seem geniune and I have seen Bright Eyes and that is the real deal.

Then Conor passes out on stage and wakes up in his van covered in vomit.
ALK3 is coming to your area this June I think. Check them out, it would be worth it.
