Okay so I finished it a couple weeks ago but never really went into much detail as to what I thought about it. I liked it, but it wasn't my favorite in the series. I think I liked book 6 the best, although it was really close with book 5.
SPOILERS BELOW THIS POINT - I'm not putting them in black text because I think the title of the thread having spoilers in it should be sufficient
I think the thing with the crying baby was what Voldemort would become if Harry were to vanquish him. It was a warning of sorts. Harry says right before Voldemort is destroyed that he's seen what Voldemort will become, and if he doesn't change his mind, he won't like the result. Something like that.
I also thought the epilogue was very fan-fiction-esque. I didn't like it. I thought it closed things off too neatly, and the fact that OMGEVERYONEENDEDUPTOGETHERWITHAMILLIONKIDS was just overkill. I said in my journal, what are these girls, baby factories?
I cried when I thought Hagrid died. I hit the book when I saw he was still alive. I didn't really cry any other time, although I was heartbroken that Tonks and Lupin and Fred were all gone. Hedwig dying in the beginning was a shocker. And I was totally not expecting Dobby to even show up, let alone die.
I was expecting more drama. Instead, I felt there was too much wandering around and not enough "action" - and I say that with "" because I'm not an action book lover, but I don't like a stagnant book either.
The Godric's Hollow scene was amazing, and the final battle took my breath away. Reading Snape's memories brought me to tears but I didn't let myself cry because I wanted to finish so badly. I knew he was in love with Harry's mom...but I never realized just how much, or everything that he did. You never realize the power of true love until you read something like that.
I'll give Rowling credit - over the last ten years she's honed her writing skills and turned into a truly talented writer.
I'm sure there's more I want to say and I'll probably say it later.
By the way - NEVILLE IS THE SHIT.
