dragonmen must fly when threads are in the sky!
worlds are lost, and worlds are saved
from those dangers dragon-braved.

Black, blacker, blackest,
cold beyond frozen things.
where is
between when there is naught to life
but fragile dragon wings?
i've read those books so many times. too many perhaps *ponders*

i've read the first book a few times, but for some reason, i could never find the second one, and i didn't want to read out of order, so the first book was as far as i got

i'm now either going to have to scan them page by page and email them to you,
or find you a copy, cuz you're a little too far to lend books to!

nah, you don't need to do that. what you can do, though, if you want, is list the pern books in order, because i can never remember what the order of the books is, and it takes me ages to figure it out. then i can wander around at chapters and see if i can find them

There are a number of ways to read this series.
this is probably one of the most typical orders of reading, based on publishing dates. I'd suggest reading Dragonsdawn right after the White Dragon, simply becuase it's esstential to read before completing that later half of the chronological story.
The Dragonriders of Pern
Dragonflight
Dragonquest
The White Dragon
Individual Pern Novels
Moreta, Dragonlady of Pern
Nerilka’s Story
Dragonsdawn
Renegades of Pern
All The Weyrs of Pern
Chronicles of Pern: First Fall
The Dolphins of Pern
Dragonseye
The Masterharper of Pern
The Skies of Pern
OR
chronological order:
Dragonsdawn
The Chronicles of Pern: First Fall
Dragonseye
Moreta: Dragonlady of Pern
Nerilka's Story
Dragonflight
Dragonquest
The White Dragon
Masterharper of Pern
Renegades of Pern
All The Weyrs of Pern
The Dolphins of Pern
The Skies of Pern
There's also a trilogy called the Harper Hall Trilogy, but that's directed at younger readers. I forget where they fall in terms of order. But they are:
Dragonsong
Dragonsinger
Dragondrums
The best way to read it all is to start with the Dragonriders of Pern trilogy, and then go back to the chronological beginning and progress from there.
and this post is probably: a) confusing, and b) more of an explaination than you wanted!

You got the harper hall ones in order, actually. I've read all of these books except the newest one. And you're missing at least two newer ones: Dragon's Kin (By Anne and her son Todd) and also Dragon's Blood (the one I haven't read yet).
There are also some books about the series, such as The People of Pern, and Dragon Lover's Guide to Pern (they teach you how to make klah and bubbly pies!)

I think there's a board game too. Last time my mom met Anne McCaffery (she goes to a lot of literature conferences) it was in the works and she was really excited about it. I also once saw an illustrated book, but I don't remember what it was called.

the illustrated book is a gift of dragons, i have it. it's beautiful. it's a collection of short stories.
the girl who heard dragons is another collection of short stories, not all pern-related.
