How would you feel about a law being passed that favoured civil gay marriages that do not have to be recognized by the church? Essentially it doesn't force any churches to go against their beliefs, but it doesn't infringe on equality rights either, and both sides are happy.

personlly i think love is all that matters
and as such if a church is willing to perform the ceremony then let them
just because someone happens to love someone of the same sex then theyre equal to everyone else on the planet and should be treated as such
go fuck yourself.

Civil Gay Marriage is what our Gay Marriage law IS. No churches are being forced to perform them, only if they want to. and its the only way it should be.

But regardless its irrelevant, because as its been stated many times, Taylor doesnt have an opinion for or against gay marriage, he's completely indifferent. His argument wasnt about gay marriage, but about the fact that religion should be respected as a real culture and that there should be religious voices, to represent his own.

From a Charter stand point I think a lot of people object to gay marriages because it then leaves the door open to polygomy. I mean if sexual orientation isn't specified in the charter but allowed to pass, why shouldn't other forms be allowed to pass as well?

Polygamy is essentially the slavery of women for sex and other weirdo practices.
Its horrible, I was watching a documentary about it on the CBC, there is a polygamy village in the Kootenays, and the amount of abuse and tribulation people suffered, and still do suffer from being there is insane.

Its all in the name of "God" too.

i actually have no problem with polygamy itself.

when the situation is abusive, unconsentual, etc.

or when women are uneducated about their choices and are pressured into these situations,

well that's wrong.

but polygamy itself isnt necessarily a bad thing. i just don't think that having mutliple spouses is wrong as long as they are all informed and consent to the situation of their own free will.

These are people who find no difference between their religious life and everyday life. The two are the same. If you were to tell me to put aside my "religious ideas" in the name of politics I wouldn’t be able to do it.

Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only person who is this way, or at least is willing to say that religion IS their life, not PART of their life.

Polygamy is essentially the slavery of women for sex and other weirdo practices.

I am not a weirdo. Neither were my ancestors. Yet 150 years ago, they were practicing polygamy. We have journals, and in no instance were the women being abused. In fact, they were being taken CARE OF. It was a loving relationship.

Sinead, I fail to see how you are accepting at all when you make a passive statement about "weirdos"and polygamy. And yes, we did it in the name of God. I am willing to say, that if God commanded me to be in a polygamous relationship, I would do it. I'm sure you'd scream bloody murder if I called all those homosexual people "weirdos". That's not accepting, that prejudice masquerading as acceptance

I = was intoxicated.

But my point was surprisingly coherent.
Sweeet
I did however think of something in my sobriety.
If there was nothing wrong with Polygamy Cass, why is it that your ancestors did it, but you dont? What changed?

Anyways... back to the election campaign.

I'm sure everyone has heard by now that the NDP and Liberals have struck a deal on budget talks. The Conservatives and Bloc have vowed to vote against it which will take place next month. It'll be very close, but the Conservatives and Bloc seem to have an upper hand. It could all depend on Independents now.

Three actually.

And anyone who is following this knows just how important those three independents actually are. Makes me believe you have no idea what you are talking about. :)

The Liberals need all all 131 of their votes plus the 19 NDP votes as well as the three independents to get it to 153. Then, the Liberal speaker would cast the deciding vote to bring the total to 154.

So I wouldn't exactly laugh at those independents Sinead.
