I almost just asked if he was ever married. That just breeds...weirdness...to me. Eh.

Good answer!
What is the doctrine behind that? I'd like to know if anyone knows.

I think it has to do with taking the eucharist and communion.. Something about not being clean after you have sex, so they'd have to wait a day and it was custom to take communion everyday.

Popemobile = coolest vehicle EVER!
Even cooler than the Batmobile.

I'm pretty sure I knew once but completely forgot about it!

Wait... I don't wanna get in the middle of a religious debate here... but I just really don't understand... the church wants people to have lots and lots of babies (hence the no birth control thing), but if you have sex, you're no longer clean?
I don't get it.

No, some churches view sex as being for procreation only. If you engage in sex for other purposes, thats when it's viewed as being a bad thing.

I just read his biography from the paper today and there has been speculation on whether he has a had a wife or fiance because he used to give all these young couples advice. I highly doubt it, though.

Technically sex is a sin... Its hard to explain. I can say, in confidence however that most catholics are walking contradictions

Technically the Bible never once says sex itself is a sin. It says adultery, and sex outside of marriage is though. This is comming from a protestant prospective.

I wish I knew.
About the sex thing...it isn't a sin when it's between two married people but anything but is.

^ That's why I don't get it. If sex is required then why aren't the leaders setting examples instead of being the exception?

I can agree with that.

All the catholics I know are.

'Cause to the religious leaders, they are married to the Church so that's considered a "marriage". So to actually get married and have sex would be like cheating on the Church.

Thats an interesting way of looking at it. Regardless the brand of christianity I practice has no problems with its pastors or preachers getting married.

It'd be weird to me, too if Catholic priests were allowed to get married. I can't picture them getting romantic or anything 'cause they're all about dedicating their entire lives to God and helping people...
Other Christian denominations...not so weird. I hear about ministers getting married all the time. I'm just used to that. Ughh..I won't even attempt to explain.
Are the Catholics the only Christians that don't allow priests to marry? I don't think Rabbis can get married, either...
