I'm thinking I'll get some upgrades for X-Mas this year.

Probably a Radeon video card (gotta be ready for HL2, lol), maybe some more RAM.

Here's my current specs:

AMD Duron Processor
902MHz
512MB RAM
GeForce 4 MX440

Any suggestions for upgrades?

Ha ha Duron. :P

Definitely get a Radeon or a GeForce, but you should really bump up your processor if you're hankering for some HL2 action.

Shut it with your Duron cracks. I've had it for a long time, and it's served me well... :P

I'm thinking of going for upgrades all around. Processor, video card (Radeon) and RAM.

Actually, I just recently got some RAM. But you can never have enough.

What kind of RAM are you packing?

512MB of it. :P

I didn't ask anything else about it when we got it upgraded. I could easily find out, but I really didn't care at the time. I was just excited to get it because I'd had a couple of games that didn't work because I didn't have enough.

what is better? ATI, Radeon or GeForce?

I want to upgrade my comp cuz I got THPS4 (and soon THUG) and Midnight club II and NHL 2004 and they need better cards. I have 32mb but looking at either 64 or 128. Any suggestions? Is 256MB ram on a 2.0 GHtz system lame? should I upgrade that too?

ATI = Radeon
I recommend the Radeon 9800.

I saw that at Staples for $149.99. Anyone know a good place to get cheaper vid cards? I don't need the All in One TV/DVD/etc stuff.. just a vid card. Or is getting the TV/DVD card worth the extra 50 bones??

Whoawhoawhoa.
A 9800 for 149.99? You've gotta be joking. The one I bough came to $633.49.

That's what I thougt it said. i could be wrong.

It was like a 128mb video card.. I dunno.. thought it said 149.99.. could have been a $400 mail in rebate.. I dunno :P

Here's another question. How do I know if I have a PCI card or a APG card? Never understood that. I know it's got something to do with the slots in the motherboard.. just don't remember which ones? Anyone?

You should really find out. The kind of RAM you have can have a huge impact on performance. Like, if you've get SDRAM, you'd get worse performance than if you had 128 megs of RDRAM.

Seriously, find out.

256MB RAM + 2GHz CPU = one solid rig. There are better setups out there, but if you've got a good video card you'll be laughing. You're gonna want to get a GeForce or an ATi card, since they're really the only serious cards on the market. ATi is popular now, but that's only because they've recently unveiled a new card that leapt ahead of the competition somewhat. They're probably going to fade out of the picture and get surpassed within a year, while NVIDIA (GeForces) stay strong, new, and popular. They did this in the late 90's. So GeForces are a better bet IMHO.

As for AGP/PCI, it'll tell you what your card is on the box. I'm 99% sure all new cards are AGP, so all you need to find out is what kind of AGP slots you have on your motherboard (which are simply the slots the video card plugs into), and what kind the card you want supports. They'll be either x2, x4, or x8. Higher is better, obviously.

And lastly, I'm pretty sure that a top of the line ATi Radeon isn't going to sell for much less than $500, so you probably saw a lower end model, sorry. :P

Is there any way I can find out through my comp (ie without calling my computer up)?

Go into System in the Control Panel, it should tell you there.

Though it might just say RAM, and not specify.

Hey. I made a HUGE mistake.. sorry.

I saw a 7500 All-In-One for $149.99.. not a 9800. :) My mistake.

That's what I'm thinking of getting for now, cuz of my SIMoleon count. Who knows, I might get more when I need more, but 64mbs will be fine.

My system:

Pentium 4 CPU
2.0 GHtz Motherboard
256mb Ram
32Mb ATI 128 Rage vid card
harman/kardon speakers w sub

Any thoughts?

Any of you GunBound players got anything you don't need?

Seriously, I'll take any item. Anything. At all.

Also, anyone up for a game or two right now?
