I just finished reading At Last There is Nothing Left to Say last night... damn that was a good book. My personal favourite story was "The Ditches on a Long Road Home" though I'm not sure why...

Quotes I liked:

"Life is like bread, at first it's great but as time passes it gets harder."

"Strange things happen to ordinary people and vice versa."

"There's always something better out there. It's in here that's the problem."

"The future is quite a personal affair, making any attempt to reflect on its impending state quite pointless. Because you and I will always see it differently, as will our children. The future is nothing more than what you think it should be. And the disappointing feature about that is that it rarely becomes all that you hoped it would. "

"There's no place like home. Fuck you Dorothy."

There were more...but I can't think of them right now. :P

Matt, Avril, Greg Norri and Gob will all have roles in an upcoming CHUM movie. Sounds pretty sweet! Avril is a huge MG fan too which is cool

now this is hilarious and would make a good video , too bad

The "gag" treatment that I sent Universal today for the new video. And no, I won't say to which song. Of course I waited a while before telling them that some of it was meant in jest. Which parts? Who can say!

The general idea of the video is to have it look cheap because it will be cheap. With that in mind, I’ve come up with the usual bag of tricks that, of course, won’t be able to be done because I don’t have the money. Instead, we’ll pretend for now that I can do it and then just live with the fact later on that there’s only about 20% of the concept left on film.

The video centers on a busted TV. The top of the video will be someone in a back alley somewhere trying to pick the TV up. They will then stand there with it in their arms with a vacant looking expression on their face, symbolizing the target market of Much Music. The duality of the video is represented in the fact that wacky, fun filled images will then come on the TV screen and the camera will slowly push towards the TV until what’s on the television is full frame. The whole video will be pulls and pushes in and out of this screen, each time revealing someone new holding the television in another place. This list will include:

Opening: an alley
2: a trash dump
3: a squat (a place where homeless people sleep! Yay!)
4: a disgusting public washroom .

Television content:

These parts of the video will be broken up into cheaply and hurriedly shot segments that will try and convey the universal truth that entertainment is far more important than art and that making money by playing the guitar makes you a much better person than pretty much everyone else.

I plan to simply shoot a band (I suppose it will be mine, though it might have to be friends that will do it for free because it’ll cost to pay my guys) in the rehearsal space I often use, playing the song. But, as a fun loving Monkey-esque twist, we’ll all be wearing rented animal suits! Oh the hilarity! Stop it Matt, I can’t breathe!

I will shoot myself singing the song in black and white (which of course will be colour cheaply filtered to look like black and white in post) trying my best to rip off the Big Brother figure from the film version of 1984. Will I succeed? Probably not. It will most definitely just look like me from the chest up in black and white.

All of this will then be cut with the always predictable footage of people suffering in horrible ways from other, less entertained and important parts of the world. We will also splice in live footage from a documentary that was made of one of my shows on this last run of dates. Of course it won’t synch up at all, but what does in life?

I’d like to see if we can get footage of Much On Demand and use it in the video as well. Because nothing says entertainment more than that! (That was serious by the way, I do want you to ask them – and this time tell them there ISN’T A HELICOPTER!)

Of course we can rely on all the ideas and tricks from the past that have worked. I figure a whole new generation of kids is around these days and no one will be the wiser. You know, we can point the camera out a car window and then speed it up, show me doing ridiculous things like stating my opinion and then killing babies, you know, the usual.

I’d also like to say that the idea I had for Fantastica, the single shot piece in the woods, would be perfect for this song. But alas, not entertaining. What do I know though, I don’t have a very good track record when it comes to writing (or saving) successful videos.

Wishing I had the budget to blow something up or hire pyro and proper choreographed dancers to dance on the deck of a yacht in the tropics while I cuddle up to some actress in a hot tub, I’m Matt Good.

the 4th single will be 21st Century Living...

Excellent choice, but people might not enjoy the ranting... people tend to dislike Matt when he rants

it kinda reminds me of the future is x-rated. It's an odd song to release but it could grab some people's attention...
