The official OLP account favorited the Arnold tweet, if that's a sign of anything.

Last week, Steve mentioned something about a "frustrating recording session" on Instragram. I wonder if that has to do with the old friend that stopped by. I'm just hoping it wasn't even OLP related, but who knows.

When I first read the blurb I was assuming Arnold Lanni, but I then thought Mike could be a possibility. Although Jim Newell did cross my mind too haha.

I always wished they had just added Steve as a lead guitarist and kept Mike on rhythm parts. That would've made a lot more sense considering Mike was never a true lead--stylistic for sure but not your traditional lead guitarist sound at least. If they had done this, OLP would probably still have a pretty distinctive sound.

Woulda, coulda, shoulda...

If they reincorporated Mike back into the band as a rhythm guitarist that would be awesome, just like Pat Smear with Foo Fighters.

This band is so damn mysterious sometimes, they make it hard NOT to speculate! Plus, reading everyone's theories and assumptions about every little thing keeps it pretty exciting while we wait to find out what's really going on. :)

That was EXACTLY my line of thinking! I was in junior high when Nirvana/Kurt ended....so I was at that prime age when OLP hit it big in the Clumsy/Happiness/SM era. There's no better comparison to Mike Turner being on rhythm in OLP in my opinion than to Pat Smear.

Man, it takes me back--what a perfect music era. I couldn't have grown up at a better time than that music scene!

I barely missed out on Nirvana as I didn't get into them until a year after Kurt died in 1995 at the young age of 9. My sister then notified me that their drummer (Dave Grohl) had his own band the Foo Fighters, with Pat Smear also being in the band. Bought the debut album without really knowing any songs lol. Fastforward two years to 1997 (age 11) when I first heard Clumsy and got hooked on OLP, and was already big into the Foo Fighters when Pat Smear announced he was leaving the Foo Fighters at that year's MTV VMAs. I was pretty bummed as it was the first time I ever experienced a member of a favorite band of mine leaving the band. Needless to say, I was pretty happy when Pat Smear officially rejoined the Foos as a rhythm guitarist back in 2010. If the same happened with Mike Turner and OLP that would be awesome.

Of course it's all just speculation right now and we still have no idea who this "old friend" they are referring to is, so I'm not gonna get too excited haha.

ivewaited - When you say you've heard this before, do you just mean that you've heard the song Superman's Dead before? This is an entirely different version than the Superman's Dead demo that was already available. Though to be fair, I thought the other one had a more unique outro and I was hoping to hear that here.
You caught me. I'm wrong. I haven't heard this one after another couple listens.

I'm really digging the outro on this. It's super aggressive, in your face, and raw.

IMO he should have kept Dooooesnt anybody ever know that the woooooorlds a subwaiiiIIIiiIIIIIIIIII, Worlds a subwaiiiIIIIIIIIIiiiIIIIIII 0o0o0o0o0o0o0o0o00000ooooooooooooooooooo

So the fact that they said "more to come" implies this visitor is going to have a noticable presence on at least one track of the new album in my humble opinion. This has an interesting connotation.

If it's Lanni, you have to assume he's producing the album, which means the remainder of the Mike Elizondo project will be buried (we might get it through TH).

Could just be a featured musician, perhaps one of the touring guitarists they worked with, the new drummer or who knows Mr. Turner himself.

I'm thinking that the old friend was Jeremy...one week ago he posts this on its Instagram:
https://instagram.com/p/0prmeGvaJI/?taken-by=taggar7
but honestly i don't know if it's something related to the same thing (probably not)...well we need to wait and maybe we will find out who was the old friend.
On a side note i liked the latest Vault release...i'm happy to see that the demo wasn't the one that we have yet...the outtro reminds me something that they played on acoustic versions of Superman's Dead in the Healthy era (if i'm not wrong there was a similar outtro), the unique thing that disappoints me is the quality of the demo...it's really strange that they managed to take Immune and make a great mp3 (the song was on a DAT tape) and then with Vampires and Superman's Dead demo we have mp3 that aren't great in terms of quality...but however i'm happy in every case!

I'm sure whatever they release next will be cool, but honestly I'm not really in the mood for "something a bit different" again lol. I'd just like something we haven't heard some sort of studio version of before (and outside of the Healthy sessions for another release or two if possible).

I don't wanna complain but my thirst hasn't been quenched in weeks lol.
