im with sarah. i read the handmaid's tale and i wanted to kill atwood too. it just isn't good. plain and simple

I read the handmaid's tale and i thought it was a highly ironic perspective on women's lib movements and the state of apathy. I related to it, although the main character, Offred, disgusted me with her utter inaction and inability to cope. I felt it was a plausible scenario, the way Offred became uncertain and unreacting. I enjoy Atwood, I've also read Onyx and Crake and found it intruiging. Her concepts are not particularly new or radical, but she has an interesting persepective and a skilled use of wordplay and irony.

i hated, hated a handmaid's tale. it made me want to cry. and throw sharp things at the book. or myself. margaret atwood's writing style is so very dry it's a wonder it hasn't shrunken up and died by now.

I'd have to disagree with everyone, because I don't know what anyone's talking about.
