Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Even if it's the same Superman's Dead demo, it should be a big upgrade from what we've heard. I wouldn't mind that. The demo we have was released on ourladypeace.com way back when, broken apart into 3 separate low quality files. I've never come across anyone with those original files. Instead, what we have is from a fan who recorded it from their computer to a cassette tape, and I transferred it back from cassette to computer about 10 years ago.

The speculation begins! Who is this "old and trusted friend"?

Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Superman's Dead demo is out.
The email message also said they were in the studio with an old and trusted friend, and had made new music. The 2 obvious candidates to me would be Mike Turner or Arnold Lanni. My bet would be on Arnold since I don't think Mike would probably work with them on the type of music they seem to be making now (unless they've shifted directions since the single).

I'm inclined to say Arnold. Going with my gut instinct.
and if i don't make it know that i've loved you all along.

Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Kinda disappointed. I've heard this already I think and I was just ready for something... New.

My money is on Jeremy. Maybe he's rejoining! Does wishful thinking have me delusional?

I would guess Arnold, or else someone who was more of a minor figure. Or... Bob Rock! I don't think Jeremy.
ivewaited - When you say you've heard this before, do you just mean that you've heard the song Superman's Dead before? This is an entirely different version than the Superman's Dead demo that was already available. Though to be fair, I thought the other one had a more unique outro and I was hoping to hear that here.

Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Well, you would think it would be someone that was around for the Superman's Dead sessions. There's not many people involved in the liner notes for Clumsy. Arnold Lanni would be the obvious choice. It wouldn't shock me if it were Turner except that I don't see them writing music with him because I don't think it would be wise to create any sort of conflict with Steve.
I'm not really disappointed in this track, but it doesn't do much for me. Honestly, only a few so far have. No Warning, Summertime Sadness (surprisingly I listen to this while I'm driving a lot), and the Consequences demo is all that I've really taken a liking to so far.
What's interesting to me on this is the drumming and some lyrics.

Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Everyone attributes old OLP's sound to mike. I'm inclined to think that Arnold actually had far more to do with OLP's sound over the first 4 albums. I've read some interviews where he talked about how he would encourage raine to do more of his falsetto stuff, and I think it was Arnolds directing that really led the band down the paths they took that ended with Spiritual Machines. I'd love for him to produce another track for the band... or maybe they got more recording from him that will be added to our vault releases?
All speculation. It would be awesome for them to work with Mike again... but I don't know that will ever happen. Outside of the bad breakup, there was a rumor (internet rumor, so no real weight to it) that they'd tried and failed to get mike to do the acoustic tour with them that fell apart after Jer departed.

I'd love to have Arnold Lanni produce an album for them, he definitely led them in the right direction, musically. Mike would be cool too, it would be awesome to have some multi-layered guitar tracks again like on SM (and him and Steve could work well in this regard I think, with Mike handling the overall atmosphere with Steve contributing well with solos and riffs).
I don't want to get my hopes up too much though, as neither one of those moves would really fit with the direction Raine seems to be taking the band.

Is it possible it could be Jamie? I'd say he qualifies for old and friend, and he really did help flesh the band out on Happiness and SM. I'd personally really like to here them record with a second guitar again as well as perform with a 5th member.

Awesome demo, love the drums.
Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
I enjoyed that
Really interesting to hear. I think it's a bit too similar to the final version to replace/be added to my OLP playlist (unlike Vampires and Not Afraid which replaced the older versions I had) but it's really cool to hear the evolution of it.
I really love that they're releasing tracks like this... it's just.... every time I hear one, I immediately want to hear others! They're so more-ish I just want more and more, but have to wait a week or more! Definitely got me hooked!

Wish I could still play these off my phone like I could with the first few. Although I will say I wish we could get to some stuff we haven't heard some form of a studio version of yet since there's only been two of those so far.
Anyway, here's a tweet where Raine neither confirms or denies it's Arnold:

Not an Internet rumour. Well, yes... I did relay the information over the Internet but I have a certain amount of credibility on this forum. I spoke to Mike directly in the spring of last year and he told me this. He said that their plans to work together were delayed because of the anniversary tour being delayed (canceled). My suspicion was that he was going to be one of the "special guests" on the anniversary tour.Tinman wrote: All speculation. As for who they might be working with now, my best guess would be Arnold. Could just be nothing more than revisiting some old tracks, but who knows what could happen...

Re: OLP says "f you retail, we got black monday instead!"
Jim back on drums perhaps?
And there's no reason to consider the Mike thing a rumor - if Jonathon said it happened, it happened. Well, I guess the rumor would be that they failed to get him. It sounds more like he would've been on board if the tour hadn't been cancelled. I wouldn't have expected him to join for the whole tour, but I think he probably would've come out as a surprise guest in Toronto to play a song or two. I suppose it could still happen at some point even though that tour was cancelled.

As far as I was aware, Steve came in well after Mike left. I fail to see how Mike joining them for a few songs would create any sort of conflict, as Steve by all accounts (and my own personal experiences) is a very gracious and kind person, and Mike is a pretty great guy himself.Driven wrote:It wouldn't shock me if it were Turner except that I don't see them writing music with him because I don't think it would be wise to create any sort of conflict with Steve.

I actually like the idea of Mike and Steve as a combo, with Robin in the mix too.
