Sooz - you can only do this on the Canadian site, and that's why you haven't done it?

hmm... I'll adopt a polar bear for you. Let me know. They only ship within Canada but I can buy as a gift, the adoption certificate will be in your name, and I can ship it to you.

oh, and have you guys seen this:

http://goodsearch.com/

Support your favorite charity or school whenever you search the Internet. Here's how:
-Enter the charity or school you support below, then click "Verify".
-Search the Internet from the box above.
-Each time you search, revenue is generated for your charity or school!
-Please use this site honestly. Fraudulent searches will result in a charity being de-listed.

It's ok Kathy, you don't have to do that for me. I have my monkey instead now  I think I probably could have got a polar bear from the Canadian site, but it doesn't make much sense as the government here will refund the charity the tax you'd have paid on the donation - so they get 28% more that way.

That goodsearch thing is great - everyone should choose Thyca as their charity!

I know there are things here where if you're shopping online and use a charity's link to get to the websites then they get a % of your purchase price donated to them. This is one for the support centre place at one of my hospitals: http://www.buy.at/ljmc and I have a site bookmarked on my PC that I can't find at the moment so that some charity that encourages kids to read can get money every time I buy stuff from Amazon.

There are so many great easy things to do to raise money for charity for very little effort, but they're really not publicised enough. I bought a book a while back called "Do the right thing (or maybe things)" which tipped me off about a few - I'll see if I can find it and pull out any other easy ideas for people to do.

oh, and about http://goodsearch.com/ ....

Some people don't like Yahoo search, which is what this is powered by. A friend of mine hates it, but she still uses goodsearch at least 10 times a day and spreads the word about how to use it frequently... before visiting any site that she would normally visit on a daily basis (eg. CM, olp.net, olp.cc, olp.com, wikipedia, myspace, hotmail, etc.), she types the name or address into the goodsearch toolbar, then clicks to her site from the goodsearch results page.
