You know... it may be because I haven't had a US History class for over four years, but I don't think I ever learned who won the war of 1812.

I never learned that the White House was burnt down from taking that class. I learned it from watching one of Rick Mercer's Streeter segments on 22 Minutes.

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf

Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay
Forever

I took a really in depth American history college class, in high school, and I remember that they discussed in pretty good detail that the war of 1812 was only a victory in a sense, not overall. It didn't even claim Vietnam to be a victory, like some people believe.

Most people would probably not even remember we had a war of 1812 just because history isn't something that I've seen highly emphasized here. I love history so I took the class and wanted the college credit. The required class was let's just say...a joke at best.

In my class we talked about the same thing. My teacher brought in a whole bunch of men who had fought in the war. They all said that they felt good fighting for their country, but when you're in the heat, no one's taken a shower in weeks, and you're keeping an eye out for snipers, you realize that you aren't fighting for a good reason.

You guys are surpriced your teacher's didn't consider nam a victory? it was a horrible failure, probably the most stunning since Britain failed to keep the 13 colonies

Yes, the US lost the battle in Vietnam. This was due in great part because it was a reserved war as well as a political war. We did not go at them with our full arsenal and we had politicians rather than seasoned generals leading the troops. This is because they did not want to attack the "wrong" regions in fear that China would join the war.

Geographically... basically, what I'm saying is that if the US pushed too far North, that may have instigated a response from China.

No, I didn't mean that. I meant that most people hold the perception that America has never lost or at least didn't succeed in what they planned to do. Really, people believe that. Thankfully, my history class was pretty thorough on explaining the retardedness of all these things.

Well actually "Canada" didn't win the war. The British did. Considering Canada wasn't self-ruled until 1867.

it was still Canadian men and women, fighting from Canada. It's the same as considering the 13 conlonies part of your history

lol we're arguing over a nearly 200 year old war. I'm going to agree with the US invaded us, we push them out, we invaded them, they pushed us out answer though. You can classify it as a victory only in the sense that the USA initiated the war and was enable to come out on top. Other than looking at it from that sense, it's a tie.
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

eveythings wrong. my history teacher kept lecturing us on how benjamin franklin would have turned over in his grave if he saw how history was being taught today and that he would have disaproved of all the propaganda yadda yadda yadda....

for the record i hated him. he looked at me funny :uh:
