Wait. I just have one quick question for Venom. I don't want to piss you off with this, but I am just a little confused with the logic on this. If we're truly safe now that Saddam's out of power and all, then why was our terror alert raised? I mean, if we're really safer, then why would it go up?

I am sure it will go down in time, but it's rather ironic how the safer we make our country, the more protection we supposedly need. I don't know, I like to point out irony in life, I suppose.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.

a few days ago some guy (cant remember the name, i was tired) was on cnn talking about how the bush govt is handling the issue of safety and terrorist threats and said its something along the lines of "its sad and scary to see how they just change who to focus on and shift it away from others, its like the flavour of the week"
go fuck yourself.

oh those terror levels...

Nothing beats striking fear in the masses.

yeah cuz so many people are shaking in their boots everyday. Anything to take a jab at America huh? I could say "Baseball is good" and you would say something like "Anything to take the attention away from the government". I guess storm, tornado, and hurricane watches are bad too since they cause fear when the disaster may not hit.

It was raised to amber. I was watching the news and they had that flashing on the bottom of the screen like a sign we were all going to die.

LOL   Oh Alan you kill me sometimes. #1 AMBER ISN'T A COLOR IN THE SYSTEM. Its at YELLOW right now. The levels above YELLOW are ORANGE, and RED. The level WAS NOT RAISED. Please produce evidence that the threat level is currently above anything but YELLOW.

Well first off there are a lot of people are are in fact shaking in their boots over terrorism. Why do you think airlines were hit hard? Why do you think tourism is down?

i've already made my claim that I'm anti-american government policy. I'm not taking jabs at America. hell if I wanted to I could get dual-citizenship since my Dad was born and lives in the USA. In the future it may actually happen for job purposes, but right now I'd be too ashamed to call myself an American.

Your example is probably one of the worst ones yet. People can look at radar and see a hurricane is coming. With terrorism alerts you're striking fear into people saying, "ya we're not going to tell you where or whats going to happen, but it could happen everywhere" That's not right. You don't go and tell people they could die at any moment. They know terrorism is out there. The don't need an incredibly unnecessary colour bar to tell them.

i think you were referring to the Amber alerts they give when a child is missing. It's easy to get them mixed up with all the alerts we have going on nowadays.

there ya go, only 48% of the people in the country wanted him as president. and only recently has his approval rating been above 50% and that's just because of saddam. Just wait till that wears off.

I apologize for the triple post... felt they were all needed

Oy, yeah, it was a child alert thing. Mistake made by me. My bad. It took up a quarter of the screen, and it was one of those crazy colors, so I thought it was terror alert. I apologize. But then again, this post right here will warrant 7 posts from Venom about how stupid and wrong I am. Yep.

Not to take a jab at America or anything but I think that the terror alert meter is kinda silly. Theres no point to it at all

Hurricane "watches" (is what I said) are issued well before the storm gets to land. They can and do change direction and so yes people could be worrying over nothing, but its good to prepare and take the necessary precautions. With the terrorist warnings it is the same thing, they don't necessarily know where or when its gonna happen. The warnings proved very useful last month in reference to the Saudi Arabia attacks. The US issued warnings 3 or 4 days in advance and guess what, some psycho blew himself up in a housing complex killing dozens of people. I would bet you that if you went out on the street and did a poll the majority of people would tell you that they aren't deathly scared of terrorism. Sure its something to think about but not many people stress about it.

Why would I say you were stupid? At least you admitted you were wrong.

I could care less about 3 years ago. This is now and NOW people will vote for Bush and you can plan on seeing him in office in 2005. His approval rating is 64%, sure it'll fluctuate but Howard Dean (or MAYBE Clark) doesn't stand a chance!

Just because you have an aproval rating doesn't mean anything. These approval polls don't ask every single american citizen. I'm sure it would be possible to find 100% of a selected population that approve of Bush, and just the same I'm sure it would be possible to find a group in which none of the supported Bush.

The only reason why it's this high right now is because they just caught Saddam. This effect will wear off. his approval rating will drop to its pre-Saddam's capture levels by the spring in my opinion.

Wow Venom, you strike me as the douche bag who looks real important and knowledgeable online, but is really some coward in a basement who is too scared (or lazy) to go outside to do something about the situation at hand, and would rather spread their pointless ridiculous opinions online, where they don't fucking matter.
You obviously want attention, (NICE AVATER BY THE WAY) and to rile people up. And you picked the WORST place to do it.

A fucking Our Lady Peace Message board to spread your phenomenal opinions of Saddam.

Brilliant.

I'm sorry man but that was pretty uncalled for... Venom isn't the only one who talks politics here. That's why this section was set up. OLP have many politically concious fans, and this is a way to discuss. I know that I've personally learned a lot from these threads. If you have a problem with politics being discussed on an OLP board then don't read this section.

One could make the claim that this is less and less an OLP board everyday...
