Although, the bible is extremely beneficial for an english class. If you don't look at it from a religious stand point, it's of great use when finding symbolism in other books. I have friends here at school who have a bible but yet don't believe in Christianity. They basically just use it for backup knowledge.

I'm sure you're allowed to disagree with your teacher. As long as you provide an appropriate argument then it shouldn't matter what you teacher is teaching. I'm guessing tyou go to a public school and not a catholic school, so as long as he doesn't use the bible as the support for his argument then it should be no big deal.

If he doesn use the bible then you can easily just say that you're going to use Catcher in the rye, or the cat in the hat as the basis of your argument because in an english class both books have the equivalency of the bible.

but seriously, considering that i'm still searching for religion i have no problem with devout Christians, but you do get the really wacky, fanatical ones from time to time. I once had a girl tell me that i was doomed to hell because i "had not yet taken Jesus into my heart". Of course since she was my girlfriend's friend, i lied to her before this and told her i did attend church every now and then, believed in god, and had read several sections of the bible. But that wasn't good enough for her, i had to let jesus into my heart.........what the hell does that even mean? Am i supposed to have an active conversation with Jesus? Because if she has, that would mean one of two things. A) She's a Saint/Prophet B) she's stark raving mad. And considering the lack of miracles on her part i'm going to go with option B.

^ "Accepting Jesus into your heart," is basically admitting that you are a sinner, and that you believe Jesus died for your sins so you could have eternal life. Theres a lot more to it but thats the jist. A lot of people think going to church, reading the bible and so on,makes you a Christian, but really it doesnt.

As funny as it may seem to you, having a "personal relationship with God" is a huge basis for Christianity.

owe i fully realize that, i know having a relationship with god is a large part of Christianity. Thanx for explaining the whole "let jesus into your heart" thing. I would still consider someone that has heard voices to be crazy though, it's a known mental disease. Of course i'm not sure of a religion yet and god may have actually spoken to several people, such as Joan. But i some how doubt that some of the people that have had a conversation with god are sane.

My teacher isn't the sort of fanitic that tells you to let god into your heart, but I started talking about how the school still had a lot of catholic traditions (since it used to be a religious school but isnt any more) and she was like "are you saying that people arn't allowed to practice religions?" and of course, that was the complete opposite of what I was saying.

She likes to ask her own version of rhetorical questions too that I argue with. And since in her mind they are rhetorical she will answer me with another questions and its just frustrating.
for example, there was a video about some foundation to raise money for global disaster relife and what not. That was fine, until right before the end. One guy stood up and said "I'm a christian and I want to help" and then it turned out that it was a devote christian organization.

Some people thought that was a little iffy, espically since there were people in the class of other religions so it just seemed inappropiate and irrelivant.
Our teacher got up on her high horse though and said "If it was any other religion would you have been as offended? because it seems that the christian group is under a lot of pressure recently"
I said "yes"
and then she went on and started talking about the freedoms of religion until the end of class.


she tries to be non-partical a lot of the time but there is nothing subtle about the way she approches religion.

I'm taking world religions and I have to write a paper on Buddhism. So yeah. I'm going to start that now.

Question. Is there anyone around here who knows a lot about Buddhism? I am kind of at a loss at understanding the Annata Doctrine. If anyone could help explain it I'd be greatly appreciative.

Then just say that no other religions do that type of thing. Seriously. I'm not trying to offend anyone here, but I've never heard anyone say "I'm an Islamist and I want to help."
