mike turner leaving shifted all the power to raine and let him run things how he wants too and gives him creative control, he tells them what riffs to write and what sounds good and what doesnt. It doesnt seem like they are a band when it comes to writing music you never see steve or duncan singing lyrics along with Raine like many bands members do at shows I have gone too. I like bands that go up there to have fun and not put on a production so I guess that is why I am not really into OLP anymore for a while I was floored by their performances but then I went out and saw other bands and the energy and dedication they put in is beyoned; play show, do press, shake hands with fans, go on bus, repeat.

And before you all jump on Rob for what he said, I'd like to add something to his point.

He said that Raine has creative control over the band, which Raine does. You might not believe it, but we actually have tape of it. Remember how we got those three clips of OLP jamming out in the studio that one day back in the winter? Well, it was Duncan, Jeremy, and Steve playing the same thing over and over again, and Raine was telling Steve how to play the guitar. It's crazy how the lead singer of the band who doesn't even play the guitar anymore tells an amazing guitarist how he should do his job. Now I don't know if he does the same thing to Duncan and Jeremy, but if he does, it seems like the band is just there to play music, kind of like the people that back up Avril Lavinge. They're there just to play music and look pretty, but really add nothing to the band.

I don't think Raine has that much control. He's just able to sit back and listen to the others play, and give an objective perspective. It's hard to do that while playing.

Plus, that was just a jam session. It's not like they were recording or anything.

However, Raine does seem to have the most control out of everyone. But most bands do have a "leader", usually in the form of the vocalist.

My guess is that when Lanni was around, the control was divided between Raine, Lanni and Mike. Now the control is more around Raine and Rock. Rock just wasn't in those videos.

That's not to say that Duncan, Jer and Steve don't get any say, but Raine and Rock are playing the roles of producers to help guide the rest along.

I think its a little presumptious of Rob to assume that Raine has full control that way. Rob could afterall be totally right (I wouldn't be shocked)........but those clips show Raine giving an opinion.....trying new things. Its really hard to judge the dynamics or a band by minute clips. I admit that Raine seems to be the leader, but the other guys aren't just puppets..............except Steve......he's just too damn nice to say anything its seems like. Again, the album should answer everyone's question about their direction and new style without Mike. I miss him a lot, but I am really looking to see what the new OLP can do.

I just hope that as they keep recording, Steve starts to give more imput and stand up for his stuff (if he isn't now).

Yeah, but when I jam out with my friends, I don't tell them, "No no no, you have to play it like so." That's not as much constructive opinions as telling someone what to do. They were just sitting in a room rocking out, and Raine was telling Steve what to do, in between that horrible moaning sound he was making. Now if that is what Raine does when they're just playing for fun, could you imagine what happens when they record?

But this jamming session is supposed to be productive. They're looking at making songs. All Raine said was to slow it down a bit so it sounded more like a song, and that was directed at everyone. (actually, I don't remember if there was other stuff he said).

Good for you. You seem to disregard my point. If you like hearing the endless cycle of complaints and counter complaints then enjoy it. I wish people would move on from that. WE've done it so many times.

And I didn't say I wasn't interested.........I come to this board everyday at least twice......usually more. I like reading what people have to say, but the tone of people's messages and their attitudes make this board less than pleasureable. Its not that their views bother me.......I think its the attitude.......its more how people say things than what they say.

I've seen Duncan and Steve both sing along. Duncan does all the time, actually... with much enthusiasm.  (Since I was talking about Duncan, I *had* to throw the thumbs up in there.)

i remeber him singing "surrender" once

"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911

"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good

I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.

See, there's a problem with Duncan and his singing. He actually does it, but his lips kind of don't move much when he does it. It looks like he is smiling when he's doing the singing. Then there's the problem he's not loud, and he likes to try and sing high, and his mic is down pretty low, and no sound tends to come out.

No no, Rob (I think) was talking about just singing along not actually into the mic... like, just mouthing the words to the songs cos they enjoy them, not cos they have to sing the backing vocals... am I correct, Rob? Or am I an idiot. Prolly the latter. After 5 minutes of sleep last night, I'm a bit off. :freak:

Nikki just wrote everything I was going to say ...

Duncan loves to sing along :D Even the first time I saw them do Talk Is Cheap and Not Afraid which was only about the 4th time they'd played them live Duncan and Steve both sang along.
Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.
