you aren't a movie buff, you're just a normal person who enjoys movies
if you can't sit through a movie once and pick it apart and examine the different things that make up a movie, then you can't be a movie buff.
and you don't know a movie is good until you watch it. its impossible to tell before hand.
i always thought sleepy hollow was gonna be a bad movie then i watched it and it turned out pretty good, mainly because johnny depp is amazing.
I love Johnny Depp Have you seen Dead Man? It's pretty different but good. The electric guitar riffs throughout are Neil Young.
I love how Johnny is sortof a star on his own terms. He does movies that inspire him and not just because they might make a lot of money. Having said that, I like Pirates of the Caribbean quite a bit, not a cinematic masterpiece, but fun. That and I can make my female friends jealous because I met Orlando Bloom.

wanan wrote:I'm definitely a movie buff. I'm majoring in film at University, I see most movies in first run theaters (I even frequent the cinemateque in order to see foreign and indy films), I spend a ton of time on the internet looking up movie news and rumours, I spent four months in LA interning at New Line Cinema, and I want to work in the industry once I graduate (preferably back down in LA). So, yeah, I'm obsessed with movies and the entertainment industry in general.
That's cool. I'm a cinematographer for a national television series. Last september a project I did the filming for got accepted to the New York International Independant Film Festival. So I took a trip to NYC. That's when I met Dave (Reijin). I'm also an editor for film and sound as well as within 2 weeks I will be fully certified to be a film teacher at various film schools. I'm also currently taking a Multimedia course which is a prerequisite for a 3-D animation course that I'm going to take so that I can work with special effects and animation for film projects as well as Video Games. I might take a directing and screenwriting opportunity before I take that course and if I do, then I'll pursue getting a degree in directing and screenwriting so at least I have some sort of actual school background in those areas. I can direct and screenwrite right now, but I don't have the credentials of that area so many job opportunities are unavailable until I do have a background for production companies to look at.
I have thought seriously about being a producer for tv, hoping to get into movies, but my parents are heavily discouraging that act because there isn't that big of a demand and there really that many opprotunities in Utah for that. So right now I'm probably going into Information Technology.
Lando.......awesome job.....
You met Orlando Bloom!? Neato fucking frito. Edward Norton IS amazing...he can pull anything off, I swear. But then again, so can Johnny.
I want to do something in film, for a while I really, really wanted to be an indie filmaker, but thats kinda vague eh, I guess screenwriting is also a possibility, though most of scripts i've written so far have been for stage.
I'm going to be taking Film Production, Directing and Scriptwriting, Stage Production, Stagecraft, Acting, you name it, in the next two years of high school, then I want to take a Film Production course at this arts college near me. My school has a huge theatre program, but the awesome teacher that has gotten me into these classes (that I'm really too young for) is retiring after next year, so unless we get a new teacher thats even close to as good as this guy is, which i doubt, I'll move my focus from theatre to film for grade 12.
Lando, what uni have you gone/are you going to? I need some help on deciding where to go to get the best education for this kinda stuff.
Wow Yannic, your school sounds awesome. My high school's apparently a big theatrical school, but all we have is Drama. I wish we had other film/theatre related classes.

Yeah, when I was at New Line I was in the Publicity Dept. so I got to do press junkets and premieres including Lord of the Rings:TT, so I saw quite a few stars. The only one I took pictures at was LOTR though, because it was my last day and I thought, screw it, I'm going to take pictures. (Attached. That's me smiling like an idiot) I had the most amazing time and could definitely see myself doing that as a career, though part of me wants to do the production side, I love to edit and I love being on set. I could see myself as a gaffer, but above the line would be cool too. As you can tell, I haven't quite decided exactly what I want to do. I'm pretty sure I want to be in LA...but I hear its hard to get a visa or greencard.
My parents are surprisingly cool about my choices, although they're probably worried I won't get a job. But, I really can't picture myself doing anything else, so I'm going to try and see what happens.
You know, with all these film people on CM, we should all band together and create a production company. Our first project could be a documentary on OLP.
