So you baasically wasted $3000 to have your teeth straightened and then made crooked again...SMART! 
nope. after you get your braces off for the final time you really dont have to wear the retainer for the rest of your life. It's probably more of a ploy by the orthodontists so they dont get sued if your teeth due go crooked, but for the most part I'm sure they set pretty quickly.
