by the way, can someone tell me what thread this was from?

BY THE WAY. i'd like to clear up the fact i am NOT stinkythecat on livejournal. i repeat NOT. i was browsing through random journals and alas, i saw that name & icon and liked it as an alias. SOME person has emailed me saying that but its not true

I know it does if you have dial-up or service that isn't constantly connected, like Sympatico.

Can you not just restart your computer when you have cable, or unplug the cord, and replug it in?

Another point.... the LJ icon has "gangsta" written on it, but the one that's shown up here DOESN'T. It couldn't have been seamlessly removed... which indicates that she didn't just pick it up from the LJ person, she has the ORIGINAL on her computer.
