my gf is wiccan as well. Well she has the Wiccan belief system, I'm not too sure if she's actually a Wiccan. She does read a lot about it, but it's been awhile since we actually talked about religion. I think it's cool. She doesn't do spells or any of that stuff.

Now as for all of this... I wish I was on when this started up cause I feel very strongly about this issue as well Josh, and Aerin. I hate ignorance. My brother and his friends are probably the worse people I know when it comes to discrimination, and homophobia. Actually just today I was speaking to my Mom about university and how the school I'm going to has the highest gay and lesbian population or something along those lines out of every school in Ontario. My brother and his friends proceded to make comments asking me if I was going there to be a "faggot" with them. Then they started speaking to me in a stereotypically homosexual tone. The stupidity is blinding.

Considering this is a daily occurance in my household, as I must hear gay-bashing from my brother's friends everyday, it has become very difficult to voice any sort of opinion. My argument is that if gay marriages are wrong in the eyes of the church, could we not say that they are somewhat hypocriticalin regards to their views of murder and the thousands and thousands of natives that they killed hundreds of years ago when they landed on North American soil.

I have more to say but I'm kinda starting to yawn so I must head off...

Exactly. Homosexuality doesn't hurt anyone, and very few people are striving to make other "sins" (like adultery) illegal, so what is the big farking deal?

To each his or her own, and the government should respect everyone's personal life choices, as long as they don't harm other people. Jeesh, you know, you'd think we could all get along...

Yup.

I've got one question concerning this issue: my Christian friends claim that marriage was wholely a part of the Christian church, but does not marriage exist in some form or another in all or most religions and cultures?

my brain is exploding. sorry to take over yet another discusison but are you people using the word freedom?

Aerin wrote:Josh's right. You have a right to your beliefs, Galaxia, however much I may disagree. However, you don't have a right, as an American, or as a human being to impose your beliefs on anyone other than yourself.

Freedom is what keeps us from turning into the Taliban.

Take it back! What's this about imposing beliefs? Either you've had a change of heart or you have some explaining to do, because i do know the definition of hypocrite, and, uh....

Anybody who votes, or believes in system of government and control has no right to be talking about freedom.

And another thing, saying "we should be left alone as long as we don't hurt anybody" is a very libertarian thing to go around saying! you sound like me. watch out! :P

Now, carry on your discussion about homosexuality.

EDIT: There's just no way for me to make this post sound less arrogant and insulting. but really, that's not the way i intended it.

we're not turning this conversation into another "anarchy is the only true freedom" thread. Take it somewhere else. Maybe one of the other dozen threads about it would suffice?

It's still beyond me how people can put so much stock in what the bible says. I just... I don't understand... it defies all logic.

I just hate it when people say that our laws come from Christianity. The bible says not to murder people, gee whiz that's not too obvious...

no.

as i have stated earlier, i will allow no comment to go unchallenged. if you want to talk about how it's "wrong to force your beliefs on other people", i suggest you look in the mirror.

democracy is all about forcing your beliefs on other people. i suggest you change the way you word your attacks on the Christian religion, which, as galaxia has already pointed out, is as despicable and loathsome as attacking homosexuals. congratulations.

i am a Christian. and if anybody has a beef with us Christians, they can take it up with me.

religion, all religion is a bad idea. because the ocasional nut job is gonna want to force his beliefs on may a person. if people would just keep their beliefs to themselves we would all be ok.
Whenever death may surprise us,
let it be welcome
if our battle cry has reached even one receptive ear
and another hand reaches out to take up our arms.

Laws are based on the bible but only because the bible came first. if religion/bible did not exist there would still be laws against killing people, stealing, etc. only because they are incredibly obvious.

My comment was based upon people who think Christianity is the basis of our civilization, when in fact it's merely pointing out the obvious.

There were civilizations that found murder perfectly ok in cases of human sacrifice and such. It's only "obvious" because you have been raised to believe that it is wrong.

Maybe you should look for a different word to describe anarchy so it goes over better. Maybe "Leaderless governemnt" or something could throw the anti-anarchists off the ball and they could see how anarchy is the answer.
I faced death. I went in with my arms swinging. But I heard my own breath and had to face that I'm still living. I'm still flesh. I hold on to awful feelings. I'm not dead... My chest still draws breath. I hold it. I'm buoyant. There's no end.
