you could also say you'll pay off the percentage over the course of the year or something instead of lump sum.. that might work too

No. My parents wouldn't forget.

I'll try to do some research into it, find out how much it will cost (exactly), and how much I want to spend on it. Then I'll start negotiating, and hopefully they'll see that I'm informed about it and won't back down.
