And I don't even think I deserved it.

Wow, that is a great picture!

The more I read about the Pope, the more impressed I am by him. I actually cried when I read the paper yesterday...the world has definitely lost an amazing man.
Did you guys know that ever since he got shot, the vehicle he's been riding around him is actually called the popemobile?

That's awesome! And this has got to be my favourite quote by him about his part in ending communism: "I didn't cause this to happen. The tree was already rotten. I just gave it a good shake and the rotten apples fell."

He was mostly a good pope i'd say. He left an excellent legacy, despite being sexist and fiercly against homosexuality and all forms of contraception.
I'm surprised at how upsetting his death has been to me.
I guess some things you just cant stamp out.

Yes, but he'd say you are good girl.
Despite supporting murder and immorality.

I dont support murder. I'm pro life

. By contraception i meant condoms and the birth control pill.

How the heck did the Pope support murder?

If being pro-life isn't being against murder, I don't know what is.
And he wasn't sexist. He was actually the first pope to agree with the idea that men and women are equals in a marriage. The fact that he didn't sway with what other people wanted in terms of ordaining women is because he felt that he didn't have the power to change it..after all, he is supposed to be God's messenger. If we're gonna blame the Pope for being sexist, we should blame Jesus for being sexist as well since his disciples were all men.
Religion has its own set of beliefs and principles and it bugs me that people always wanna change it in order to conform to their beliefs and principles. If you don't agree, then don't follow the friggin' religion. Choose another one or come up with your own!

No, he wouldnt let women be ordained as preists. He is commented to have been sexist by nuns visiting the vatican also.

I think I should clarify what I meant. You're both obviously good people, but your takes on good are different. It's like saying about me, "Oh she's a nice girl, but she's a Mormon." Lots of people do believe that any sort of birth control is wrong because it prevents people from entering this life.

If that's so, then why aren't you out there having babies right this minute, Cass? You're killing off lots of potential babies by spending your prime reproductive years single.

Well, from what I know about people who have this view (that I do not share, btw), is that they think sex is for procreation. If you're going to engage in it, then you should be prepared and hopefully aiming for babies. They don't have anything against people abstaining.

I always had a lot of trouble understand that line of thinking.

Birth control preventing babies, in the constrewed version that it is murder, is absolutely ridiculous. Period. Under that line of thinking, you could argue that menstrual periods are like abortions everymonth, and ejaculation a male abortion.

I don't think it is good if you are trying to not have children with marriage for selfish reasons. But I don't think you could call it murder.

Yeah but some people just dont want children. It shouldnt even be up for discussion, people are allowed to make their own choices. The birth control pill doesnt hurt anyone.
I'm on the birth control pill, because I dont want children, and in the event that I have sex with someone, I wont become pregnant.
Whether sex was made for reproduction only is irrelevant. People commonly have sex for pleasure only.

Yes, but it's NOT irrelevent to people who believe that just as passionately as you believe it is. Some people even go so far as to say that sex is never for recreation, and if they are married, then they SHOULD want children.
I think that it's up to the person. But when it comes to my life, if I'm gonna get married than a big part of that will be to have children. Before that, I won't be having sex, so I won't have to worry about it.

One other reason for contraception, Condoms anyways.
If people in africa were educated, and condoms were used regularly, AIDS would be CURBED drastically. This is a world wide epidemic, and to be careful you should always use a condom. Thus not spreading it more and more.
He was against that. Its kindof Ironic, how interested he was in African Welfare of the population, their suffering etc, but he was staunchly against condoms in general. Therefore letting people who followed his word more susceptible to AIDS.

Because he insisted that they still wear habits? Big deal. Priests (at least Catholic ones) still have to wear stick to their dress code.
Cass - Okay, I get what you're saying now! By "murder", you meant forms of contraception. In that case, I'd have to disagree with the Pope. If people have no desire to have kids, then they shouldn't be having any.

Yeah, that's what I meant. You have to actually have some form of life to kill it. So...yeah.

No the sexism comment was about how he believed the husband should tell the wife what to wear and how to act actually. The habit is just a part of a nuns job :p .
He never really knew any women, not as closely as he knew the hundreds of celibate men he was surrounded by.
