i completely agree with lando's idea.

aaron and jeff aren't the same people. jeff didn't break any rules this time. so you can't justify banning jeff's friend by saying that.

the report system lando mentioned can work.
it's used on neoseeker. you click a little button and depending on your member ranking (# of posts) you can either a) report it to a moderator or b) move it out of sight to the moderation queue
..but i don't think you can set the same thing up with this kind of board, but some kind of report system can work.
..and...
.....yeah...

Thats like, alot of work though.
And just because you have less posts doesnt mean to say your claim is any less warranted than someone who has more than you.
Reporting is great, but people will do it for dumb reasons, or even as pranks giving tons of extra shit for mods to go through unnecessarily.
If anyone has such a problem with what the Mods are doing, why even be on the board? If its causing anyone so much emotional stress or whatever, just dont come around.
Personally I think the mods do a good job, and I think everyone else should lay off.

Sure some people will spam the report system, it's unpreventable, but it's definitely not a lot of work to go through them considering how quickly spam can be identified and skipped over for the real complaints.

See, I happen to think there is a certain maturity level on this board and for some reason I honestly think that people won't be douche bags about it, if we have a report system. Also, the mods will see if the same person keeps reporting stupid things and can warn them, or whatever. Plus, there really aren't that many people on this board and with the really high number of mods there are, sifting through maybe 20 a day (which really seems to be an exaggeration, but I had to throw out a number) definitely shouldn't be a problem. I think maybe this is the way to quell the fights about when a mod bans a person, at least now people won't only blame them if they think it was unjust.

Mods don't ban, the admins do. (though that doesn't change your point)
However, the mods discuss almost all matters before taking any action (unless something has to be done immediately, like deleting or editing an obviously offensive post, in which case the matter is discussed afterwards). And it's not like we're a single-minded body. There's often disagreements as to what to do, or if anything should be done. It's not like the admin just chose mods who would do what they wanted (like in a real government).
As for banning Aaron, when someone comes on the board, and in their first few posts (very shortly after having agreed to the rules, mind you) is able to make offensive remarks and would normally be reprimanded in some way with any member, they don't exactly have a lot of respect to back them up. If the only thing a new person contributes to the board is offensive, it's up to Matt's discretion to do as he sees fit (remember, he does own the board). Had it been a regular member, they wouldn't have been banned.
In fact, no one would give a damn, and most people would be happy to see him go, if he were not Jeff's friend.

Lando I like your idea. Here is what I am going to do. In the You Need to Understand forum, there will be a list of the current administrators and moderators. That way if anyone feels a post is offensive or questionable, you can send one of us a PM and we can deal with the problem as a team from there. In the case that one of us can or need to delete out an offensive post before others read it, we will take that action. I'm too tired to think of anything else.

I brought it up because Jeff used that defense for him after his friend was banned.

Matt, I think you should appoint one or two specific mods for people to PM, so that if say 10 people find a post really offensive and they report it, it doesn't get spread around to 10 different inboxes about the same post. This way all the complaints will go to one place and if a bunch of mods are offline or not around they don't have a bunch of complaints in their inboxes.
This way if everyone PMs both of the two, or just the one admin/mod it can be dealt with or addressed much more easily.
Or if there is some way to make a PM forward to another mod or admin, then everyone could send it to one specific mod and the other mods/admins could receive it too just in case the person the report is sent to is offline.
