Hey Nikki, why not try and find something that you're passionate about. Instead of thinking that you have to take a job that sucks, why not try and find a job in something you're interested in?

So far I have my BS is Software Engineering and have been married 6 months now. I hope to return to school in the fall to start on an MS in SE part-time while I continue to work full time at my job as... (big surprise) a software engineer. I was one of the fortunate ones who knew what they wanted to do since 6th or 7th grade. There were times that I doubted my decision (like freshman year of college) but I stuck with it and am happy I did. Don't be afraid to change your mind though, the most important thing is that you find something that makes you happy. Don't settle and don't do something for the money. That's just my advice. Be patient for you younger folks, you'll find your niche one day.

Nikki, you have never had a job? Not even a part-time gig? I'm not mocking you, I just find that interesting. See, my wife and I both agree we can't imagine our lives NOT working. As if we need to work in order to feel complete. Of course, when (or if?) we have kids our roles may change a bit, but with things the way we are, we are both very content working.

See I find no desire to have a career. I want a job that I can halfway enjoy, definitely get a job at when I graduate, allows some flexibility, and pays well. That is my criteria. There is no way that a job and money are going to make me feel completed. Granted, you know I need to work when I can while I'm getting my education and probably even after I'm married if I need it. But I can't imagine trying to run a smooth family and work even a part time job. I watch my mom and she works part time...holy hannah, all the stuff she has to do is just exhuasting to think about.

But I prefer Neil.

Oh if only that were true. It's not so much she's in charge of the decision, but the way she raised him has made him think everyone needs a job. Most people feel that way now, I guess. Call me old-fashioned. *shrugs*

There's not really anything out there that I'm passionate about that I could do, or would want to do. The thing I'm most passionate about is music, and I don't even wanna think about joining the corrupt music business.

Nope, never had a job. In high school, I was far too busy with yearbook to get one, then my parents let me have some time off after school... I've never gotten around to getting off of that break, because I enjoy being able to do what I want when I want.

That's exactly how I feel. I don't consider money or power or any of that crap important at all as far as "feeling complete". Money's only a necessary evil to me.

My career has nothing to do with money, power, or any of that. It is about doing something constructive with my life and keeping busy. Contributing to society if you will. Sure the money is nice, but I enjoy working too. Not that I would do it for free, maybe if I was a millionaire.... but I'd make my own hours.

For about the 17th time I just went on my university's website and looked at the requirements for the different programs and the such.

My grandpa passed along that same piece of advice to me, and I couldn't agree more. The money is absolutely not worth it if you hate going to your job every day.

That's the key: not HATING it. As long as you can stand it and find a wee bit of joy in it.

I think that is probably very good advice if you plan on your career being a lifelong thing and you do it for you and your family's sustinence. If I didn't ever have plans of having a family, I'd be doing something very different right now.

It's ok to be old fashioned Nikki. There are far too few of us these days. You can come live among the Mormons, you'll fit right in!
