THIS! But yeah, make it career-spanning, not just Burn Burn. Or just make it Burn Burn. Or don't do it all! It's your site, not mine!

THIS. Ugh. Those were dark days for being an OLP fan.

I can tell you that might happen sooner then we think..
The last tour sale was like every other band tour site. The problem is that too many sites now offer pre-sales and pre-sales to the pre-sale
As for what should be on the site..
Weekly or monthly on the road or in the studio journals.
Downloads of maybe some bonus songs that did not make it on the cd or anywhere else.
Personal updates from the band or someone associated with the band( which realy goes along with journal)
If they do have a fanclub type registration they should have long time fans get top choice. I know how frustrating that is when you go to get tickets for a show and newer( usually scalpers) get the top seats while the true fans get crap..
Give insentives to come back on to the site. Maybe have some kind of contest where fans can win something rare.
Have a photo section.
a Q&A section. Where fans can ask a question.. Maybe on a monthly or bi-monthly basis..
A fan community

Not really, the last tour sale was VERY BAD. Bands can and do make arrangements to get some % of the available seats at a show for their own fanclubs, presales, and whatnot. They can negotiate to get the best seats if they care to do so. They can make other arrangements to guarantee that the tickets from their own presale do not go to scalpers (will-call only, personalized tickets, etc).
I have used the band presales for both Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails this past year and got great seats through both. Nine Inch Nails was even using the same ticketing service as the Our Lady Peace presales did (musictoday.com)
The problem with OLP's presales were that they handed their own ticket allotment for their presales to a third party (UltraStar) who then went on and pulled all the best seats to use for expensive packages. We all paid membership fees to this company, and then they held back a great deal of the best seats for insane packages. OH YEAH, and those packages were available to everyone, not just fanclub members. Effectively, the company running the fanclub took the best seats meant for the fanclub and then scalped them to anyone who wanted to pay an outrageous amount for them. That was a low blow, and 3 years later a lot of us are still very bitter about it. The band's management should have never let it happen...
Fortunately if they play any shows around here it will be general admission and I won't have to deal with crap. Maybe ourladypeace.net will even offer some perks.
Oh here's an interesting read by Trent Reznor about about what happens to concert tickets, their true market value, scalping, etc.

I was talking about the money part. People were complaining that it cost them $170 or whatever the price was to get preminun seats for OLP last time. I remember at the time so many other bands were doing the same. I think they all were part of the same formula.
I have done pre-sales also.. I do pre-sales, regular sales and day of releases. I never settle for seats. Iam spolied like that.
I have done pre-sale swhere the seats were crappy and where the seats were great.
I just did the U2 pre-sle through the fan club. They set their pre-sale up in 3 levels. Long time fans, renewal fans and new fans. People were joining the fanbclub last tour then buying tickets to scalp. The fans( real ones) were getting upset cause tehy were getting shut out of good seats when they paid for that services. I never understood the whole joinging a fan club for the chance to get good seats only to have to pay for that9 VIP packages etc). It like Yes we will give you the seats, but you must pay this much extra. That is what people complain about in lots of the fan club. I do not join fan clubs for this purpose. I am only in the U2 one cause it is cheap for me. Almost $20 dollars cheaper then if someone just joined. The only bad thing with thier pre-sale was one of the shows the venue did their own pre-sale before the second level fans could get tickets. I thought that sucked cause you are in a fanclub but yet anyone with access to the password from teh venue can get better seats then the fans. I did end up getting GA's cause I was in the first day pre-sale.
I think I used Musictoday for Interpol in 2005..
I usually just look at what is available . If I like it great, if I don;t I wait.
Not all pre-sales and fanclub sales necessarily give the best seats in the house. That is the bad thing and it makes fans who paid for that service angry..
As for OLP I went on line about 3 weeks after the general sale and got 5th row seats for Ottawa for regular price.. I was shocked wiht that cause I thought those were the special package seat only..

Oh by the way, I would like to see tour dates!
Maybe some other tour-related stuff that would be cool to see on ourladypeace.net:
- opportunities to see soundcheck or a short private acoustic set before the shows
- opportunities for a meet + greet before or after shows
- have a poll for fans to vote on which old songs they would love most to hear

On the World's A Blister Tour( 2000 Canada)
They had that. You could order tickets before they went on sale to the general public then the day before the show you could call for soundcheck passes for the show..I think you called at 6ish and said you would like soundcheck passes. The next day your name would be on thelist for a pass.
I thought that was great cause the fans got tickets before gerenal public and the band did a meet/greet soundcheck at all shows for the fans. I am not sure if it was limited or not cause I only went to a few shows. The one in Montreal had about 30 people or so. Same with Ottawa.

tell Sony that the next time they invite me to take part in a focus group about OLP fan-club related things, they better:
A: Pay for our beer. The free pizza was great, but we took time out of our schedules only to get stiffed with the beer bill. The general rule of thumb about a focus group is to pay the group - or at least pay the full tab... and we know better than to think it's a treat to be invited by Sony to hear our thoughts. We did them a huge favour.
B: Actually listen to our ideas and not completely fuck the fans like last time. I don't care what anybody says, .NET was a joke last time. I apparently had a free membership because of the focus group - but was never told about it until the site faded away. I had to use Sab's membership to get in and witness the rip off that people paid for. Did anyone actually receive the prizes they won?
the new .NET is awesome so far though...
