OLP has had awesome bass lines in tons of songs. On Naveed through Spiritual Machines, there are tons of songs to choose from that have some of the most memorable bass lines I've heard. The bass is a bit more transparent on Gravity and Healthy, but I'm not going to get that topic started again..

Ok Ok Ok let me rephrase, yes OLP has lots of bass lines, but other then Naveed(Obviously) no other song reaches out a bitch slaps you as hard as MonkeyBrains does.

I mean Duncan has been riding the Naveed line for awhile, its about time for another in your face reminder of why i fell in love with OLP many many many years ago.

Dude, Monkey Brains is sounding really awesome. Even its title screams classic OLP. Can't wait to hear it... does ANYONE have any sample lyrics? Guesses?

I love the bass in Naveed. I noticed that, too, and how much Jer used the snare drum, and how that moved onto the use of lots of cymbals in Clumsy.

This is really perking me up. Youtube, here I come again... and if you don't have Monkey Brains... *shakes fist*

Just listened to Matt's recording.

I like them as a four piece. It'll take some getting used to, but I like it. As for the new songs, The Right Stuff remains cheesy and yet completely unforgettable. I want to this loathe this song. I really really do. And yet what was Matt humming while making himself dinner tonight? Yup, The Right Stuff.

'Monkey Brains' is fantastic. It carries so much steam - busting wide open and then pulling back again to build tension - all the way up until the bridge. I don't mind the bridge. It's anthemic and it'll be neat to see live when we're all familiar with it. But as anthemic as it is, it may actually kill the song for me. Breaking it down completely is cool, and it works well in Superman's Dead, but it just sounds awkward here *shrugs* I'm probably just insane. With that said, though, I would happily take a record of 'Monkey Brain' type songs.

'Waiting For Something To Happen' is a killer pop song. My only slight with this is the chorus lyrics. Sorry, I don't get it. He writes an entire record that is built entirely around the idea of getting back to that place where there's a major emphasis placed on the words themselves, and then writes a chorus like this..? His love of spontaneity and honesty aside, there's absolutely nothing inspired about that.

What can I say besides WOW. The song is fantastic. It really is OLP shining through. I think this is what Raine was talking about when he said the new album was like a "maturer Naveed". This song is definitely Naveedy, folks. With a touch of SM.

Monkey Brains is heavy. A very nice change from the other Burn Burn tracks I've heard so far. This truly is the more mature version of Naveed.

I like it. I'm very impressed. It's heavy... but yet, slow and climbing, waiting to explode, like some sort of bomb. This is making me very happy!

New songs don't tickle my fancy, which isnt surprising.

Can someone be a sport and upload the new songs on Youtube or post a torrent in the trading area? I'm not accepted back yet for the hub and I would love to hear the new stuff, I'm sure so would a bunch others.

The structure of the verses is reminding me of The World on a String... but oh well, it shouldn't bother me too much, as I actually like that song unlike a large portion of OLP fans.

It's also nice to see Duncan shining a bit more again. I couldn't really get into his work on the past two albums, as I couldn't hear it or it was too laid back and simple. Jeremy also has a few great drum spots which I was glad to hear. Steve also did a good job on this. Some parts he seemed to be not doing much, but it other parts he was really rocking. Hopefully on the album version he'll be rocking throughout the song.

I really have to agree with Matt about that breakdown. It really bugs me, as it didn't fit in much at all. That part sounds pretty generic as well, and it doesn't do the song justice. At least it ends with a bang.

I'm not exactly in love with this song, but it definitely sounds like it will be one of better OLP songs in recent years.

i really love that bridge in monkey brains...it does seem kinda out of place in that song, but it might be put together better on the recording

and anyone looking for duncan's bass missing on the last couple albums...take one listen to "boy"...the bass in that song is amazing

When I saw them in Atlanta in 2005, Duncan's bass shook the whole upper balcony where I was at on Will The Future Blame Us. Good times.
