So several weeks ago, the two girls I worked with found out that today is my birthday. They emphatically insisted that we go out this weekend to celebrate. Last weekend they came over to watch the season finale of Rock of Love (since we are pathetically obsessed with the show), and they wrote on the white board on my fridge, "Next weekend you're mine bitch!" because they wanted to go out this weekend for my birthday. I texted one of them on Friday to find out when we're going out, no response. Today I get a call from one of them to wish me a happy birthday and to make sure we're still going out. I called the other one later to tell her that we're cooking dinner and watching the reunion show of Rock of Love at my apartment before going out. She said they'd be here. I told her we were starting around 7. 7:10, I get a text saying she has to go somewhere and can't come over, and she'll call me later. Fine. I was half expecting this since this happens all the time with the two of them.
A couple of weeks ago, a good friend of mine that I've known since undergrad said that he couldn't go out on Saturday because he had to work, but that he wants to come out Sunday (today) and we can go to dinner and go out or something. He said he'd bring another friend of ours. I texted him today to tell him dinner at my apartment. He then texted me back with a list of other people who are coming out. I told him that I don't have enough dinner for all of them, since I was expecting two and not five or six of them. I said that they can all come over here before we go out though since I'll be watching the reunion of Rock of Love at my apartment at 8 and then going out. This was before the two girls told me they weren't coming. He said okay cool, they'll be here.
At around 9, I text him to find out where they are. He says they're at our friend's house. I said "So are you coming?" and he said "Not gonna make it sorry happy birthday." I texted back "WTF?" No response.
So we had extra dinner for the two girls who didn't come (yay for leftovers?) and my roommate made me a cake to share with everyone before we went out. But now we're not going out and it's just the two of us for cake and I'm actually really upset at being ditched on my birthday by people whose IDEA it was to go out in the first place.
But I had my two best friends (my roommate and another local friend) here for dinner, my roommate cooked a great dinner, and we had fun watching the reunion special by ourselves. So I guess I know who my real friends are. But seriously, it's such a shitty thing to do to ditch a friend on their birthday.
Excuse the tense changes. I fixed a bunch of them but I'm just too cranky to bother fixing them all.
