I must say though... I am halfway through, and yes, it's a good book, but it's not NEARLY what I was expecting from people's reviews.[/img]

James Frey is an asshole and his publishing company (Harper) are idiots.
I can't BELIEVE they're still marketing that and My Friend Leonard as non-fiction.
He even admitted that he made them up. He wrote a fucking letter to his readers apologizing for making up stuff. It's not a work of non-fiction, it's a work of biographical fiction and should be marketed as such.

By the way, I'm sick of seeing him on my bestseller list every week. Just when I thought I'd finally gotten rid of him, My Friend Leonard was printed in trade and now it's back on list again. *mutter*

For my reading:
I finally finished First Rider's Call and OMG IT WAS SO GOOD. You should all go out and read Green Rider and then read First Rider's Call and then anticipate the third one with me. The second one was better than the first. The third comes out in August. I have mine on pre-order.

So now that I've finished that, my paperback copy of Ilium has been calling to me to re-read it. I read it in hardcover, and then bought the paperback (even though I own the hardcover) so I could write all over it during my re-read.

This isn't the cover I have, but it's a trade size that I'm going to have to buy now

So I don't read all that often, but this Welsh boy gave me Douglas Coupland's Hey Nostradomus! and it was so good that I read it in 3 hours. A fairly easy read, but very engaging and interesting. Now I need to find someone to pass it on to. Giving away books once you finish them is a really good idea.

...Did I mention I'm obsessive with my collecting of books?

I was at the used bookstore in Latham a few weeks ago and found the hardcover edition of First Rider's Call (I'd originally bought it in paperback because I didn't want to spend the money on a hardback), and opened it up and it was SIGNED. And since it was a used copy, it was only $13. So what did I do? I bought it of course.
I have the first book in hardcover only. I have to buy it in paperback now, and they have a signed edition of that one as well at that bookstore...so I'm going to have to go back and buy that too.
I also ordered the third one in hardcover, but when it comes out in paperback I'm going to have to buy it in that size too.

When Olympos by Dan Simmons finally comes out in mass market in August, I'll be buying that as well, even though I own the hardcover.

I also have several different editions of Dan Simmons' and Katharine Kerr's work because it is my obsessive goal to own it all. Katharine Kerr's new book comes out in a couple weeks and I've preordered it in hardcover...so now I'm going to have to go back and find the first 11 books in hardcover even though I already own them in paperback (one of them in trade size and mass market, and the first three or four in the American and British editions).

Do you see why I'm so poor? Because I am obsessively building a library in here!

Yeah, when I started reading it, I had already heard about it all being fake. I could understand how people would think it was amazing when they all thought it was real, but now it's just mediocre at best. I'm having a hard time getting back into it (it's been weeks since I picked it up)

I think I'll just move on to the next book on my list which is:

I suggested we have a book burning in the middle of our store, with James Frey's books and Ann Coulter's books.

...and for effect, we could toss both of them in the fire as well.

I have the same obsession. I have a wishlist on chapters.indigo.ca that I am constantly buying things off of. I also look on their site in the 80% off section.

I just bought 3 books and a CD for just over 40 bucks. It was great.

I also have an obsession with coats, but that's another story for another time.
