I'd prefer not to give my credit card out, I'll wait for a recording.

Well, hopefully there will be more info about the stream coming here shortly. Perhaps Trusty will let us know.
BTW, haven't seen much of him the last couple days, usually that's a good thing, means he's working hard! :)

Also, many, many thanks to you guys and those that upload stuff to Youtube. Although I am very sad about the Wolf changing, at least I can listen to the videos on Youtube (not as amazing quality, but at least they exist)

I have an MP3 of the Wolf from Niagara Falls that Locobone recorded with Josh's equipment. The quality is better. If you PM your email, I can send it to you.
“Music doesn’t have the power to change the world. What music does is it changes people, & that changes the world, so to say that music doesn’t change people anymore is just ridiculous. It does everyday. It doesn’t have to be on a political or social level. You could be feeling shitty & it makes you happy & if that’s all it does, it’s changing the world. It’s making it a better place.” ~ Raine Maida

carleiu wrote:I totally hear where you're coming from too, and I'd love to hear the demos/b-sides in their entirety! Maybe it's a question for Trusty, but what do you think about taking a page out of Spoon's book and releasing a monthly "bonus" song on their website (http://www.spoontheband.com/)? These bonuses are always demos or unreleased songs. You don't even have to join a mailing list to get it! Rather than taking on finishing and mixing an entire album worth of demos that the band clearly doesn't care for, asking for one song at a time seems to have more potential for success (especially since OLP has reintroduced their web site as their own). This also bumps the site visits as it serves to keep people coming back to check in more often.

There's been a lot more talk. For the guy who said the Lanni stuff is better than any B-sides recently.... there are b-sides from that era too boss! You want some unreleased Lanni shit? It exists, son. I don't know if anyone else in here is in Ten Club but once a year we get a 45 with a rare/unreleased Pearl Jam song. Sometimes it's a corny X-mas song, sometimes It's a rare live cut, and sometimes It's a b-side so amazing you can't believe they put it out on a 45 only to fanclub. Not exactly like Spoons idea but if the boys are worried about quality control it gives them all year to pick something/write something and if the creativity isn't flowing that's what the vault is for.

As far as "overvaluing" the songs. I disagree, after all you're suggesting the Lanni era was better, so by default aren't you also saying Lanni era b sides have a chance to be better than Bob Rock era album cuts? Maybe it looks like we're being selfish brats (I know I am!) But I think the band nonetheless appreciates hearing there is a demand for this material. The thing I like about CM is that it isn't a vacuum of yes-men (though some do exist here). Over the years there has been major debates and critiques of the band and their decisions, it's what is fresh and exciting about this place and differentiates it from most fan communities which are just giant circle jerks.

Honestly, some of Pearl Jams best work are b-sides, Sad comes to mind, didn't fit Binaural so they had to drop it, I'm sure over 20 years (if we count As If material) OLP also has some of these "Weaponized" b-sides at the ready. I'm of the opinion there are some out there that are probably way BETTER than Vampires or Ordinary (Thanks for the name DG!) that we haven't even heard clips of, so if being a brat and asking about them is what has to be done to give them a chance to breathe so be it.

Maybe in 20 years OLP will just pull a Black Crowes/Neil Young and release their "unreleased" albums, like whatever they had before curve might be might be mixed mastered and ready to go, maybe we will see it in a box set down the line.

Maybe we won't ever see them, but they sure are fun to talk about while we wait for Trustys next clip. We all know he's probably busy listening to his custom four CD boxset he made with every OLP demo/b-side on it.

I like the clip for Mettle. Can see it being really nice n slightly epic. George Chuvalo's voice behind the piano is good, too.

I was really hoping for a lot of up tempo stuff after listening to a lot of Naveed recently, and having discovered the pre Naveed demos on this site (Hadn't heard the Neon Crossing demo before!) but, it doesn't really matter, I suppose. After many listens, I like all the Soundcloud clips (except Find our way home, still bugs me, hopefully the whole song will be nice)

Glad to see Mettle has some lyrics aside from just George talking, and it sounds pretty cool. This album is definitely shaping up as a sort of mature, modern OLP's spin on Spiritual Machines.

heavyalibi - i hope you dont go posting all these songs on youtube ;) we already have something planned. So if you want to record them and listen that is fine but lets not go posting the whole record again like burn burn.

p.s - I they will get flagged by warner as soon as you upload them anyways, so it's really not worth the time and energy on your part.

Thanks for the update Trusty, sounds like everything is going pretty good! A couple of points I wanted to hit on:

1. I'm sure if the listening party does get recorded and shared, it won't go outside the CM. I for one don't plan on it going anywhere except for my mp3 player.
2. As Fast as You Can is one song that I don't think I know anything about other than Matt, who interviewed Raine last week, saying that it was great and reminded him of U2...I can't recall hearing it in a clip unless it was one of the unidentified ones. Anyone have any more information?
3. Mettle sounds intriguing. OLP has often ended their records with a song a bit outside the box from the rest of the songs (think of Car Crash, Stealing Babies, Wonderful Future and Al Genia in particular), and this seems to suit that. Looking forward to hearing the whole thing and getting an idea about the song structure.
4. Lastly, be careful Trusty when you say MIGHT hear some b-sides, many of us here are excited about this, don't get our hopes up!

Trusty, thanks for the update and that's great news about the B-sides. I won't put the Curve songs on Youtube, and if you or the band wishes me to remove the full BB songs I will do so, just say the word.

Well we know the original version of the wolf was recorded, but I doubt we'll get that one as a b-side...it's probably have to live on as a live track of other songs that were changed and later released (Disgusted/Big Dumb Rocket is an example).

Not a fan of the Mettle clip. If the song changes and that's just a lull, then that's ok. But if the clip is representative of the entire song, then I don't think it's a good choice for an album compared to something like Tales or Moth.

I had never really heard of him before but wow, the devastation he faced and his ability to keep going is worth of praise. I can definitely see why OLP wanted him on the cover.

Also, I can tell that Curve won't be upbeat like "Naveed" or Clumsy" and that's perfectly okay. It has some upbeat songs (ie. "Window Seat") but not in that 90s grunge style. Like I said before, it doesn't quite sound like anything OLP has done before and honestly, it's neat hearing the band try something different. Unfortunately, this will be bad news for fans who really like 90s grunge or who really like slick pop rock ballads (Gravity)..I think one has to be open to different sounds and styles to enjoy the OLP ride so to speak.
And if I don't make it known that
I've loved you all along
Just like sunny days that
We ignore because
We're all dumb and jaded
And I hope to God I figure out
What's wrong

Also I find the title Mettle to be very apt for a song featuring him. :)

I couldn't agree more. My three favorite bands are PJ, Incubus and OLP and not only do two of the bands regularly release B-sides, but they are often some of my favorite tracks. Pearl Jam's "Footsteps", "Wash" and "Hard to Imagine" are some of the most beautiful songs in their catalog. Not to mention "Yellow Ledbetter", one of their most popular songs was a B-side. And Incubus' "Punchdrunk", "Look Alive" and "Monuments and Melodies" again are all amazing songs, yet released as B-sides. Would love to hear some unreleased OLP.

I think Muse released more B-sides than OLP has released on official albums, and all their B-sides are awesome and make me much more of a fan.
