New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd
Re: New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd
But Raine has said he'd love to get Vampires out there on that Facebook/formspring thing.

Spiritual Machines and Happiness werent very heavy rockers either, so I'm not worried.

I completely understand, I love me some hard rockers from OLP, but knowing they don't need a bunch to make an awesome album keeps me at ease.
Re: New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd
Can anyone tell what the chorus lyrics are?

Pretty sure:
Well you left
And I won't be the same
Well you left
Goodbye, auf Wiedersehen.
(pronounced aveeda-zane - 'see you later' in German)
Here's my guess for everything:
Look far below
Is it taken, why it's so wrong? (not sure on these two)
Let's keep this informal
I'm too afraid to ask where you're from
Like a tale from a grocery list
You want it so you pay for it
You check out and you bought that shit (chick?)
Yeah, yeah.
Well you left
And I won't be the same
Well you left
Goodbye, auf Wiedersehen.
I'm assuming this is about prostitution or something? Who knows. Amazing melody, by far the most interesting OLP song in at least 10 years.

Thanks

Phew, I must say, it's nice to be exited about the band again

To me it sounds almost like:
Look for the normal
The years have taken quite a toll on
But it's hard to make out so I dunno! That's just what I hear.

Re: New Album in 2012 - "Curve" April 3rd
Originally I heard the middle section a bit differently, and I thought the song was about a casual hookup... but I think you're right on those lyrics, so it could be about prostitution. Or it could be about an iPhone. Who knows.
I hear this:
If I were noble
The years have taken quite a toll on...
Let's keep this informal
I'm too afraid to ask where you're from
Like a tale from a grocery list
You want it so you pay for it
You check out and you bought that shit
Well you left and I won't be the same
When you let it your body gives and... (in?)
In a recent interview, Duncan talked about lyrics and says that the lyrics are all Raine and the band doesn't question his lyrics unless it's something that they find objectionable. I thought it was a little weird that he said that. Coincidence?

After your suggestions I think I hear it like this now:
Look for the normal
The years have taken quite a toll on
Let's keep this informal
I'm too afraid to ask where you're from.
Like a tale from a grocery list
You want it so you pay for it
You check out and you bought that shit

Well you left, and I won't be the same
Well you left, goodbye, auf Wiedersehen.
I can't get over how good this song is, from the singing to the instruments to the melody...amazing. Trusty, I will paypal you $200 today to get this in our hands!

Ah fuck it, if we're bribing people, I'm in. $200 is ready to go on my end too.
This song has become quite interesting after listening to it again after a couple months. I want it. Bad.
And I'd have to agree with Josh's lyrics.

My take on the lyrics is a bit different than the rest of you.
You look far from normal
The kids have taken quite a toll on
Let's keep this informal
I'm too afraid to ask where you're from
Like a tale from a grocery list
You want it so you pay for it
You check it and you bought that chick (? hardest line to decipher)
Yeah, yeah
When you land, your mind won't be the same
When you land, your body feels it
You look far from normal

Thank you so much for posting that Tales from a Grocery mp3! I love it! Amazing
Did you put any more together? Or are there not that many more clips? I wasn't able to check out a lot of streams (time difference
)
It's such an easy listening song, I love it. I think I agree with faninor's interpretation lyrics, to me it sounds like 'body gives in' as opposed to 'auf wiedersehen' (which doesn't really fit with Raine's writing style. Not that I can begin to imagine or assume what that is, but they've not really used other language stuff much before, and 'body gives in' sounds like what they'd write, going by earlier songs)
Maybe it's 'You check out and we both have change'? Or is that too boring? haha
It's so good, got it on repeat - I love the Where are You initial demo. I loved some of the streams I did see - love the sound of them doing stuff off the floor.
Also, many, many thanks to you guys and those that upload stuff to Youtube. Although I am very sad about the Wolf changing, at least I can listen to the videos on Youtube (not as amazing quality, but at least they exist)

I'm up for chucking some money into a kickstarter fund if that's what is stopping OLP released a b-sides/unreleased album. I would imagine a digital release would be the cheapest way for them to do it successfully, and I'm okay with not having a physical release.
You only have to hear some of their unreleased material to think that it's time they did it. If Curve is a new era/watershed for the band then perhaps this would be the perfect time to draw a line on the past and put out the old songs.

Wow! A whole lot has happened here since I last posted. I can't believe a new OLP album is almost already here!
I kind of lost the happy for a while but the Happy's back!
On a side-note, I am all for that B-sides comp as well. I listened to Trapeze for the first time in ages and it blew me away. Take all my money please

Their take on it all along, isn't as much as the money or Sony issue, as it is the feeling that you should put the old stuff out when you have nothing new to offer. I think eventually they'll cave and put it out, but I don't see it happening for a while.

Yep, only three days left!!

I already have an account set up on Sony's Music Unlimited site, it's just a matter of activating my credit card trial, which I'll do Tuesday. I will record the songs, which I'll probably have to do with my soundcard recording software.

I'm worried that if we don't push them for it then it will never happen.
