I just got back from a 9-hole round of golf.....man I shot horrible. I didn't even have any beer with me to force drinks for "longest drive".

I'll be going out sometime shortly after exams end. I've been itching for it for months.

I'm thinking about taking up golf this year. :)

It is the toughest sport you will ever learn. I'm a pretty good athlete and can usually pick up a sport rather quickly but golf is so intricate that it's amazingly hard to be good at. One little aspect of your swing that you won't even notice will cause your shot to go way off target. It's a great sport and one that you really have to play often to be consistent.

double post cause I'm too lazy to edit...

Did I mention I'm going to St Andrews in 3 weeks :D Unfortunately I won't be playing it but just to be there is going to be awesome.

Yay golf is tricky. Never, ever, lift your head even a fraction of a centimeter until you hit the ball. Eyes on the ball at all times, that is the fundamental rule.

so true

weird thing is, I find I usually play my best near the start of the season - after I've had a bit of practice but before I start obsessing over the little aspects and over-thinking it.

My biggest problem is common with most left handed golfers... I have a pretty big slice. I've learned to counter it with a draw but it isn't very consistent. I really don't know for sure on each shot if my slice is going to show up, or if my draw is going to make it go straight. Oddly enough it only happens with my driver. My irons are dead straight and if I could only get my distances right I'd be shooting better scores than I do.

After I'm done school and get a real job I'm going to save up and buy a good set of golf clubs and have them fitted for me. I think part of the problem is that my clubs are just a generic set and so because of that I might not be hitting the ball at the right angle.

same here! My slice KILLS me. Except that I'm a righty. I've taken lessons and been told a hundred different sure-fire ways to fix a slice. But then usually I just end up over-thinking it and focusing too much on all these little details.
