Trusty, get a number from the band dollar wise of what it would take for a b sides album, we can have the kickstarter up tomorrow.

I'll donate $200 to a kickstarter fund for a b-sides, if it includes Tales and older stuff, like Vampires. I don't care if Sony wants money for them, I'm willing to pay to have them available.

I'm less picky. If we could get a b sides with this track on it, I'd pledge the same as riley.

Ha, I dunno if it's a case of money, but I'd throw a decent chunk of change at it.

I'm sure it's not a money thing... well, maybe a little bit for recordings owned by Sony. More likely has to do with motivation or finding the right way/time to do it. In a lot of cases these are just demos and songs that were 85% complete... so do they just release them as-is or go over and finish them up properly? Probably finish them properly in many cases. But at this point in time the band (at least Jeremy definitely) is more interested in working on new stuff if they're going into the studio to work on something. They just have a different attitude about older unreleased songs than, for example, Radiohead. But the topic keeps coming up year after year. I think eventually we'll see some sort of compilation release.

I would rather get a rough version of Vampires than nothing at all, for example. Plus I would be worried that if they went and tried to "fix" older songs that they would end up Burn Burn-ing them and soften their edge.

Well, they wouldn't go through and re record stuff, so it would be almost impossible to make them much different.

I never heard Tales before.. WOW!!! this got cut?? what the hell.. I know Raine was pretty stoked on this song, I saw him talk about it on twitter a lot. I find it really hard to believe that we wont be getting B-sides from this.. I mean, what the hell will be in the box set then? and we heard a lot of great songs.

::shakeshead::

this song is perfect.
and if i don't make it know that i've loved you all along.

I think it's the best song they've never released, to be honest. It tops Not Afraid and Vampires by miles, and Trapeze too.

The best that we know of! :evil: I don't count Not Afraid as unreleased -- just most people liked the early live versions best. But who knows maybe they are holding onto this song for the next album or something. Vampires... was kinda neat, but at the same time I think it sounds sort of generic and hasn't held up to the test of time for me as much as almost every other unreleased OLP song/snippet.

If there's one thing OLP is consistent in, it's getting tired of their songs very fast. Over the years they've consistently demoed great songs early in the process and then moved on to release more mediocre tracks right before the CD drops. They tend (it seems) to become enamored with the last few songs before release at the expense of quality songs earlier on.

Vampires is still one of my favorites.. Not really based on the demo though, but instead for the in studio footage of them mixing it or whatever.

I agree they usually do start fresh when they begin working on a new album, but they occasionally do revisit tracks. It probably depends on how much time passes between this album/tour and when they start work on the next. If it turns out to be quicker than normal (like Happiness/SM), I could see a couple of leftover songs surviving. If it's more typical, 2 or 3 years, then probably not.

Jeremy already said more than once that Vampires is never going to happen.
“Music doesn’t have the power to change the world. What music does is it changes people, & that changes the world, so to say that music doesn’t change people anymore is just ridiculous. It does everyday. It doesn’t have to be on a political or social level. You could be feeling shitty & it makes you happy & if that’s all it does, it’s changing the world. It’s making it a better place.” ~ Raine Maida
