head to
www.matthewgood.org and sign up (for free) to the "community" section.
a) you can watch a video of Matt covering a beautiful song called "Girl in the War"
b) you can stream one of the songs from the upcoming album
Hospital Music. The song is called "A Single Explosion"
I'm VERY excited for this album.
edit: c) you can also download a B-side from the album called, "Can't Get Shot In The Back If You Don't Run". he already released a demo version a while ago, but he recorded this studio version while making this album. it didn't make the cut so he just released it online for free

Matt's final version of Can't Get Shot is very nice. I'm excited to see that Black Helicopter made it into the list as well as She's In It For The Money. I expect this to be one of his finest albums yet.

yep, I can't wait to hear it. I don't have HUGE expectations for it, but I'm definitely looking forward to it. Like, I'm not really expecting it to surpass Avalanche's epic span or anything, but I imagine it will be in that vein.
The Boy Come Home was one of my favourites from the acoustic tour, so I'm excited to hear how it's turned out on the album.
I'm really enjoying A Single Explosion. When I first started listening to it, I expected it to be yet another vocal/acoustic song, and got thinking that maybe that's what the bulk of the album would be. Then when the second half of the song kicked in I got a new wave of excitement.

I'm definitely liking this song, too.
It's haunting and kinda cool to realize that he wrote much of this while in the hospital (hence the album name).
He put some bits of hand-drawn/photoshop art on his site a while ago, much of it with words and lines worked into them. It was stuff he'd drawn while in the hospital.
And some of the lyrics from this song as well as some others appear in those pictures.
example, from 99% of Us is Failure:
also, from A Single Explosion:

I was able to play She's in it for the money on his player, but I can't seem to play 99%...
This is very annoying
Can anyone rip it or anything?

Does this have a release date yet?

nope, no release date yet.
I haven't heard of any rips floating around ... and I'm not sure why this one won't play for you

It would be cool if he did his own artwork for the album.

Somebody had suggested that on his board. He did a lot of sketches while he was in the hospital that would be great for the album.

I'd love to see that.
But I heard (through a fansite) that he's got his buddy
Jer Crowle painting something for it.

www.matthewgood.org/hospital-music/ (upper right-hand corner)
Register for the site if you haven't already (free)
Then stream the full-length Hospital Music!
The stream plays the album straight through, but it's worth it if you've got about an hour to listen. Because damn, this is fucking GOOD.

I'm going to have to listen to it a few more times to give a real review, but here's some first thoughts after my first listen:
Champions of Nothing - awesome way to start out the album. just ... wow
A Single Explosion - liked it when I first heard it, and it's still just as good
Metal Airplanes - freaking great song.
99% of Us is Failure - I remember when the stream played I found it really slow, but in the context of the album the pace is really quite moving
Born Losers - great song, but I knew that already
Odette - beautiful song
Black Helicopter - I'm extremely happy with how this came out. much like the demo version except fuller and sung with a lot more passion.
The Boy Come Home - loving it
The Devil's In Your Details - very cool track, though I felt like something was a bit off in the chorus. needs another listen
Moon Over Marin - hadn't heard the original before, but I definitely like this
Girl Wedged Under The Front of a Firebird - not really sure what to think of this one yet, needs another listen
I Am Not Safer Than A Bank - I'll admit, it made me laugh out loud. kind of like a short tantrum in the middle of the album.
I'm A Window - fantastic song, love the vocals
She's In It For The Money - this one came out really well, I enjoyed it more than I thought I would, from what I remembered hearing it live
True Love Will Find You In The End - I love the inclusion of this short simple track, almost like a message of hope to finish off the album
overall: I didn't have very high expectations for this album, but I'm not surprised to be surprised at how good it is (if that makes sense). It really is quite spectacular, and feels like a cohesive unit from start to finish (that may have something to do with the fact that it can only be heard that way at the moment). I won't hesitate to say that it's better than White Light Rock and Roll Review, since it's full of the passion and heart that White Light largely seemed to be missing (with the exception of a few key songs on White Light). While the focus is shifted away from rock-riff heavier tracks, it's not as slow and folky as I'd feared.
so yeah, on a first listen I'm absolutely LOVING this album.

I'm not listening until I have a shiny CD in my hand
Does anyone know of anywhere other than amazon.ca that I can order it from?
xx

I haven't heard of anywhere else to order from, but I'm holding off on preordering until I see if maplemusic.com (where Matt's official store is) gets a preorder up, since they often have signed copies for the first 100 or so preorders.

yeah i was surprised it's not on maplemusic - they're normally great to order from. I don't really care about getting a signed copy, just to get it cheaply and quickly.
