so... years ago I had a uni prof that I really looked up to, he helped me develop my knowledge and skills and be more confident, we talked a lot outside of class (he even added me on MSN to chat), and then after awhile he became quite inappropriate and crossed the line a few times. I stopped taking his classes.

Today I got an email from him. He said he's been thinking a lot about me, wondering what I'm up to, and curious if I ever "married that fellow I was seeing" when I was a student.

This whole episode made me remember the file of emails I saved, so I've been going thru them, and I came across the poems he wrote me, all the 2am emails about how his wife was sleeping and he wanted to chat, etc.

This guy, after only knowing me (in class) for a couple of months, read me like a book. He saw past the act that I put on, the smile that I always faked. He pulled me aside to talk one day and he looked right into my soul, and told me what he saw. It was scary and made me feel very vulnerable. And then he kept contacting me every day. And it got stranger and stranger. All the while I felt very naked... like he knew way too much about me, yet I told him very little.

Sounds like he was just concerned, some people can read others and others are easily read, despite their best acts. Was this person doing it to be creepy or out of concern.

Kathy that is so wrong on so many differnt levels. Working in a university these are very serious abuses of power. People in power are not allowed to use that to further their relationship with students. I think that you write him a very clear message stating that you wish him not to contact you anymore. If he does you will have to take steps to stop it, they will include the inappropriate relationship he was trying to develop with you as a student.

Rusty - It definitely started out as concern. And he seemed really genuine and sweet. I loved him as a prof and chatting a bit outside of classes was fine. I kind of welcomed a relationship where I could avoid being my fake self, and so I started to open up a bit. And then he wrote me poems, and called me at night, and asked me to go on MSN to chat with him at 2am when his wife was asleep, and he's a pilot and wanted to take me flying, and asked me if we could meet for dinner, etc, etc... don't want to get into all the details.
