Okay, so this happened today and I was there...

The local newspaper is reporting it as "yesterday" since the article is for tomorrow, which would make yesterday = today.

"A seven-year-old Mississauga boy was airlifted to hospital yesterday afternoon following a terrifying accident at a Meadowvale grocery store.
Peel Regional Police say the boy sustained two broken legs and other injuries after becoming trapped in the parcel pick-up conveyor belt inside Dominion, at Meadowvale Town Centre, at around 4:30 p.m.

The boy was airlifted to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children.

Police confirmed last night his injuries were serious, but not life-threatening.

Police say the boy was shopping with his mother when his legs somehow became trapped in the conveyor belt. The belt is used to wheel out groceries to customers in the parking lot.

It took Peel police and Mississauga fire crews nearly 30 minutes to get the boy out to an air ambulance helicopter waiting in the mall's parking lot.

A Dominion customer called 9-1-1 on her cell phone seconds after the accident.

Horrified shoppers and employees watched the dramatic rescue unfold, with emergency crews working feverishly to extricate the boy.

Oh that poor little boy. And yeah, I hope you didn't see much, too. I can't imagine standing there watching that happen and knowing there's nothing you can do to help. :(

Also... a conveyor belt to get groceries to the parking lot? That's the epitome of laziness. Maybe after this, they'll be taken out of whatever places they're installed in.

Luckily I didn't see too much... I wasn't at the check outs when it happened, I only went to the front of the store when I heard the boy screaming. I can still hear it in my head.

And I'm not sure how he managed to get stuck in there, obviously his mother wasn't watching, and no one else was either.

It was relieving and also heart breaking when they finally got him free and took him out... I cried happy tears and sad tears all at the same time.

Yeah, that's one of those things where it's a relief but it's still horrible. :(

So glad he's ok (albeit injured), though.

I use to play with things like that at the Beer Store when I was little. Also, I once got my fingers caught in the conveyor belt for grocerices. It hurt.

Queens Of The Stone Age-Someone's In The Wolf

Once you're lost in twillights's blue
You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay
Forever

Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

really? wow. People put their buckets of groceries on them, and then they go pull their car up in a circle where the buckets come outside and you pick them up and put your groceries in your car.

I've only ever seen it used by moms with 3 kids and no hands left for carrying groceries, or elderly people.

That's just bizarre. surely it's not that much more effort to push your stuff to the car in a trolley?

I can't really defend it... I don't use it and see no use for it either. Which is why I hope this incident might make them remove it.

I just never realized we were the only ones that have them!
