The Matthew Good Appreciation Thread
There's a whole bunch of new vids on You Tube
"How can we justify spending so much on destruction and so little on life?" Matthew Good
"The white dove is gone, the one world has come down hard, so why not share the pain of our problems, when all around are wrong ways, when all around is hurt, i'll roll up in an odd shape and wait, untill the tide has turned.....with anger, i'm dead weight, i'm anchored"- IME, God Rocket (Into the Heart of Las Vegas) ^ Some say this song is about a terrorists thoughts before 911
"Pray for the sheep" Matt Good
"But it's alright, take the world and make it yours again" Matt Good
I felt it in the wind, and i saw it in the sky, i thought it was the end, i thought it was the 4th of July.
"Hold on, hold on children, your mother and father are leaving, hold on, hold on children your best freind's parents are leaving, leaving,.......*AHHH*! " - Death From Above - Black History Month

Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.
And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

OMG.
After worrying the crap out of me on Monday by getting sick and not being sure if the Vancouver shows would happen, it looks like they're going ahead.
I don't think I'll believe it until he gets on stage, but still - wooooo.

This might be long, but I don't care!!
Matt and I played 'phone/AIM tag all day until I finally at about 5pm we got to talk and he ended up driving me to the venue! Totally randomly Matt saw Kyle Davidson (who directed the IAWCC (and It's Been A while .... ??)videos) so we chatted to him while we were stopped at some lights! The venue was so gorgeous all pretty wood and plush red chairs and little fairy lights all around the walls. So I took a seat out on the floor and got to watch the soundcheck. It was a long one as they were struggling to get the sound right. I got to hear bits of: Avalanche, Tripoli, Hurt, Hopeless, Prime Time Deliverance, Life Beyond the Minimum Safe Distance, Sort of a Protest Song, It's Been A While Since I Was Your Man and all of She's In It For The Money. So after the soundcheck Matt had to go back and pick some things and some people up, so I just hung out in the venue with the crew and had some yummy dinner ordered for me. Matt told me at the end of the soundcheck that the best seat in the house was at the front of the balcony right next to the soundboard so I left my coat on that seat before they let the audience in. Then when Melissa came on stage I went and sat there to watch. She put on a great show - lots of funny banter too. And she made us all sing happy birthday to her sister who is 30 today and looks just like her! Between hers and Matt's sets I popped back to the backstage room to eat my dinner and then it was time for Matt - it was only 20 minutes between sets - yay for not having much to set up.
Matt was amaaaazing. He started with Avalanche, going straight into Tripoli. It was like heaven. I can't really remember the order. But here are the songs I remember (there may be more): Avalanche, Tripoli, Prime Time Deliverance, Hopeless, So Long Mrs Smith, Fated () (which apparently the crew have taken to writing as Farted on their setlists, and even on Matt's tonight - though Matt didn't seem to spot it), She's In It For the Money, Sort of a Protest Song, The Boy Come Home, Alert Status Red, Load Me Up, The Fine Art of Falling Apart, Life Beyond The Minimum Safe Distance, In A World Called Catastrophe, Strange Days, Hurt, Apparitions, Can't Get Shot in the Back If You Don't Run (which went into a nice geetary bit at the end that he didn't do when i saw him do it before), It's Been A While Since I Was Your Man he also played a few of the guitar bits from Weapon - but said that had to be reserved for the half a song tour as he'd need the VSO for bits of it. We had lots of fun chatter between songs. Some about the enormous bottle of beer he'd been given, some about getting sick, the Anne Coulter doll, some books, something about how people should do a running commentary on bootlegs ("on no, he fucked it up there"), making fun of Steve his guitar tech, something that started off with "has anyone here ever lived in a hotel" and ended up being him saying that to stop children smoking they should just pay someone to walk around after them and tell them they're going to die, a story that Robbo had already told me (thanks Robbo
) about how he wanted to make a sex tape like Paris Hilton and get rich and famous and how he'd do it wearing night vision goggles. That's all I can remember for now.
So after the show I went back to the green room to see what was going on, but there were just crew doing crew things and Matt was in his dressing room, so I was wondering quite how I'd get home (Matt had already said his car would probably be full), so on his way out Matt pops in and asks if I'll be ok getting back, so I tell him I'll work something out, but then he turns to Steve the guitar tech and asks if he'll drop me off - which obviously he couldn't really say not to. So I came back on a slightly convoluted route than involved sharing the front seat of their equipment truck with Matt's lighting guy as far as where Steve's car was (not too far) but we were talking about the shows and the songs, and I found out another couple of songs he's played
but never mind. And then Steve drove me the rest of the way back here.
So it didn't turn out at all the big nightmare that I thought it might at all. I got a great concert and I must just repeat that Matt is one of the nicest people I have ever met.
Ps Robbo's in big trouble for not being here for me to tell him alllll about it right now.

oh my goodness, i sooo want that as my background on my space.
Whenever death may surprise us,
let it be welcome
if our battle cry has reached even one receptive ear
and another hand reaches out to take up our arms.
Nobody's gonna miss me, no tears will fall, no ones gonna weap, when i hit that road.
my boots are broken my brain is sore, fer keepin' up with thier little world, i got a heavy load.
gonna leave 'em all just like before, i'm big city bound, your always 17 in your hometown

I told you it would work out! have fun with the remaining nights!
I can't wait until the day schools are over-funded and the military is forced to hold bake sales to buy planes.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.
