Do I ever like harmonics

Harmonicas!
Oh. Harmonics. Right.
Okay, going off the list Jeff gave you: what they do....
distortion - pretty basic, just switching distortion on and off
wah - effect like extreme bends each time you press it (it's more like a gas pedal than a switch)
delay - self explanitory. just different degrees of "echo"
flange - extreme vibrato, although I think it goes above and below the note(s).
phaser - never used this one. I imagine it's like a 70's psychedelic rock effect. Don't quote me on that, though.
tremelo - never used this one either. not quite sure
chorus - gives different octaves of the note(s) played, giving the effect of different "voices" making the same sound, all at once.
As for prices, they depend on what brand you're looking at. And it depends on whether you want separate pedals (if you just want a couple of them) or a set that has many effects built in. Separate pedals can cost from $70-120 each. Not sure about sets.
Your best bet is to check in with your local guitar shop.

could someone fill me in on what phaser is, i would go down to the guitar store with these questions, but i'm very inept with guitar lingo and stuff like this, i have no guitar friends and am basically self taught, i'm decent but i'm like a dear in headlights when people get talking guitar talk.

Phaser
It "phases" the harmonics of the guitar signal and can be manipulated to get a "warbly" effect or a slow sweep (aka, Live - Lightning Crashes)

Amp distortion is usually really low quality, though.
I use my Gov'nor distortion pedal (Marshall), and my amp's distortion to augment it for solos, as well as the effects that come on my amp (delay, chorus, flange, delay/chorus).

I find personally that amp effects are low of quality and I dont use them.
For distortion I use a Big Muff

it decided to stop working. so i took it back to guitar center where i bought it. and they redirected me to this electronics repair place where they take all of their stuff to fix. well that place has had it probably three weeks or more. and all i think it was was a burned out tube.

Sweet Jeebus!!
Those wankers sure are taking way too much time to replace a tube.

YES! I'm actually starting to understand this recorder!
I'm able to record multiple guitar tracks with vocals!
You want to hear something weird? Listen to your own voice and/or your own singing voice.
