so, my big white ominous math binder is leering at me from my desk.
and i'm turning to it and saying,
"i hate you. you wreck everything. you make my dad shout at me and you make me feel insignificant because everyone else in the universe seems to love you, or at least work well with you. but you and i, no. we just don't work. we are oil and water. and i woke up at 8 in the morning on a sunday to hopefully smooth things out with you, but to no avail. you've stumped me! i don't understand you. you're torturing me. i can't bear to look at you but every time i do there's a flicker of hope for that triumphant future in which i'm standing on my high pedestal and all feels right in the world because I UNDERSTAND CALCULUS. I'M GOING TO GET A GOOD JOB. I CAN STOP WORRYING NOW. but as soon as that thought enters my head, it is beaten down by the dead weight of, 'hey, you failed that test on friday. like, seriously failed it. it brought your mark down by 8 percent. you are hopeless.' my brain wasn't created with the capacity to comprehend the complexity, the boxes and charts, the numbers and columns and rows and lines and symbols on those messy pages that fill you cover to cover. i know english, i know language, i know art, but i hate you, please rot and die."
