The fact is, he's not going to try anything if a guy and girl are together. He probably wouldn't try anything if it was a guy at all... Unless it's a really small guy and this guy is huge.

As for the baseball bat comment made by someone else. If you're a girl worried about a sex offender, you're not going to be walking around town with a baseball bat in your hands. If you have it in your car or in your trunk, chances are you're not going to get a hold of it nor get to use it before this guy gets you.

Unless you see this guy running at you full speed from 50 yards away yelling "I'M COMING TO RAPE YOU!"

Then maybe you have a chance!

The truth is, if you're worried about this guy, which is somewhat of an impractical fear because the chances are extremely rare that you'd be a victim, just take precautions to make yourself more comfortable when you're out. Such as, don't go around at night alone. Hang with people you feel comfortable or safe around, bigger groups are better. Carry something like mace or pepper spray with you. It's cheap, easily accessible (can be put in a purse) and it's NOT A BASEBALL BAT (psychos!) Even take a short self defense course. All of those will ease a girl's mind at least somewhat.

For University students, it should be easier to find a self defense course and for cheap. Often a University will host a self defense course for students for free or cheap. Even if it's a one day thing or a one week course, they're often available a few times a year or you can get information on where to find one.

i actually looked into the mace/pepper spray thing, and it is illegal, in ontario anyway. the only way you can get away with having one of you is if it is labelled animal repelent.

and you gotta know how to use it. i heard of people spraying it and it was windy and they ended up macing themselves

i was thinking of getting mace before moving here. i have no idea where i'd get it though, and i'm not even sure if it's allowed. and it's the only way i can think of to protect myself if something happens, since even if i do take a self-defense course, i'd still be too soft to actually hit somebody.

Have I mentioned lately how much I love concerts? Cos I do, I really really do....... even when the people around me all dance terribly... and 99% of them are drunk and/or high and not noticing that there are other people around who don't like to be bumped into with elbows and such... and some weird loud chick tries to kiss me twice. :wtf:

Jamiroquai fans are strange.

Okay, girls, if you're in a situation that makes you uncomfortable (eg walking alone at night), just pull out the ol' cell phone and keep it visible in your hand. You're way less likely to get jumped if you look like you've got your fingers on the emergency button.

never walk alone at night. walk with friends.

i walk home alone at night a lot. i go to my friend's house and we chill for hours and then i just go home by myself. he COULD walk me back i guess but it's like a 10 minute walk each way and there's not really a point. in fact i just did that tonight... the worst that happens around here is that some drunken guy will go "hey beautiful" as you walk by - i mean, by 4 am, even the panhandlers are sort of off work
