Such a happy thread.

So, my Grandpa arrives Wednesday and is staying for over a month. Then my uncle is coming and bringing at least two of his three GROWN children and staying for over a month. Is it just me, or is that en excessive amount of time?

Ha ha ha, I do not get out of bed in the morning, so I am a winner. Well sometimes I use the bathroom. But that's only sometimes. And I guess if I sat on my bed now, then got up for a glass of water or something, I'd be getting out of bed in the morning too.

Anyway, I rule.
I just wanna get out,
Stuck inside of this.

So by that you mean that you stay in bed for your entire life?

That is actually a sign of, or can lead to, depression.

Ya I don't care if I get flamed, but you get out of life what you put into it. If you feel like you have no reason to get up in the morning, and you don't like that feeling then do something about it. Do whatever it takes. Why live life in that state when you can do so much to make things better.

Cue flaming due to my optimism...

I think a lot of the time, that can work.
Sometimes, there are things that cause it not to work.
And sometime you're just damn tired.

Oh man, that's sad. I'd cry if that was my school.

Jim, it takes alot of time to feel optimistic about a life that you hate. But the bottom line is, you're right. If you need something different, you gotta do what it takes to get it. The problem is, when you're depressed that task seems monumental. Seeing how even getting out of bed sounds horrifying.

I'm going shopping!

True, if it actual depression then it can be hard to overcome without some outside help from a therapist. I just cannot believe that actual depression is at the root of everyone's problems. I think a lot of it is just an emptiness as though they're missing something from their life, which easily can be found with a bit of effort. Just find something you like to do or that you would like to try.

I think you're simplifying it way too much. Just finding something fun to do is not going to make it all better. And remember, your brain is very powerful. Most people grow up thinking negatively, and if you are negative for long enough, I fully believe that you can CAUSE your own depression just through negative thinking. That doesn't make it less real. Depression is the root of alot of peoples' problems, but it sometimes has a cause.

^

Depression is a mental illness and for some people it's caused by a chemical imbalance in their brain, like my mom. It's not as easy as simply having an optimistic view on life. You can have all the optimism in the world but it's going to be in a constant fight with your brain, when your brain is telling you to stay in bed and fuck life. It's not as easy and simple as just finding what you think you're missing .. especially when that emptiness and that something you're missing is a person that isn't coming back.

Are we talking about depression? Or just being down?

I understand completely that depression is a chemical imbalance, and that it takes more than a change in attitude to fix it. But I also believe that a lot of people are sad just because. They aren't diagnosed with depression but still wallow in their own pity. In these cases a change in lifestyle can help. Just finding something you're passionate about can help. I don't mean go play a board game with your little brother. I mean go and take an interest in something that can have a true effect on your life. Here are some stats on Depression.

I truly believe that in a lot of cases we create the world we live in. If you wake up every morning with no intentions, no goals, absolutely nothing to live for, then you've created that world and you'll feel depressed.

I've been trying to get out of my apartment at least once on my days off. Thursday is now movie day for me. I've gone to movies, by myself, for the last 2 weeks. I just can't sit here anymore on my days off and do nothing but stare at my pc.

Good job Lori!

My store is doing it's inventory today. I worked from midnight last night until noon today. I can still hear the inventory people scanning boxes in my head. I'll be so glad when my schedule is back to "normal." This week I work 60+ hours in a period of 5 nights.

We think my brother's best friend from 6th grade might have died in a car crash... they hadn't talked for a couple years (my brother's going to be a senior in college next year) but still, it's odd...
