that's an interesting theory, but how's snape going to spy for the order now? everyone thinks he's evil. if he tries to go near them they'll all kill him. hagrid and harry probably won't even listen to his reasons now, they'll probably try to kill him at first sight.

I guess I use spy for lack of a better word. Perhaps he just has a mission. I don't know I suppose my theory is far fetched, and probably won't pan out. But...I just don't want to believe he'd betray Dumbledore that much. I guess it really doesn't matter...he died either way, eh?

I think i have a simplistic, yet workable theory of what's happened between Snape and Dumbledore. Snape was, of course, a double agent, and i believe ultimately for Voldemort's side. From what I can gather, he told Dumbledore whatever information the Dark Lord could spare that would not put him in any danger, but still seemed rather important. So for things like let's say, Draco trying to take Dumbledore's life, well Severus could let Dumbledore know that, because no one really has faith that Draco will succeed. But as for the unbreakable vow that Snape makes (which i'm almost certain Snape knew about), that was kept under wraps, so that Dumbledore would let his guard down for Snape to be able to kill him. This would account for Dumbledore having full knowledge of Draco's plan.

Besides that, which i could be totally wrong on, does anyone else find it...not strange, but curious that current Voldemort does not appear even once throughout the entire novel? As much as he is made reference to, not once does he actually do anything that we know about. Weird.

What do you mean, that you're certain Snape knew about? How could he not have known he was making an unbreakable vow?

i think he was saying/referring to the fact that someone pointed out that snape DIDNT know why he had to protect draco, that he did not know draco is serving the dark lord, etc. in other words he thought narcissa was talking about something else.

anyway i can finally open this thread, i finished the book (i finally got it out of my sisters hands). god, i cried so much it is not funny. i was so mad at jk rowling... because if there was one person i did not expect to die, it was dumbledore

it was my favourite hp book until dumbledore died and then i HATED it. and by hate i mean i was SO ANGRY i kicked something.

i never thught Regulus would be the R.A.B. but it seems it would make sort of sense... and the theories about how dumbledore wanted snape to kill him is amazing, i never thought about that.. dammit i loved snape until now and now its' all weird cuz we dont know if hes truly evil.

Afe i totally saw the Smith connection i was like Hmmmm because there is no way rowling would choose a aforementioned last name if it didnt mean something.

and yeah.. these theories are very enlightening. i just wish i had something to contribute as meaningful as this. i didnt want to belive dumbledore was dead so i kept reading faster and faster until i had like 4 pages left and then i was downright ugly-angry cuz it means dumbledore won't come back. i was hoping a The man who lived-type of miracle.

Although, there are a few theories that he's still alive. Hermione once said that Dumbledore was a registered animagus (though she didn't say what animal)
And the animal that Dumbledore is most associated with happens to be the only creature that can come back to life. And at the end, Dumbledore's body bursts into flames and Harry thinks he sees a Pheonix.

I don't really put much stock into that theory though. He'd already been dead for a day or two when that happened.

Ah I forgot that Dumbledore was a registered animagus. I was watching the first movie and an owl flies in right before Dumbledore appears. Perhaps he's an owl?

if dumbledore is an animagus, i think it would make the most sense for himto be a phoenix.

even after a day im still devastated... i really really really wish he didnt have to die.. and the worst of it all is that someone had already told me this before i finished the book but i thought they were kidding because in my head there was simply no way dumbledore dies. booooo

The movies have no credit to the real Potter verse. Hell in the beginning of the third movie Harry was practicing magic in his home during the summer vacation. Not only is he not allowed to do magic, he's not allowed to do magic in front of muggles so he would be in serious shit for that. The movies have been off on many occasions.

As for Snape being good, there is a interview floating around the internet with JK after book 6 was released so they discuss spoilers. When the talked about Snape someone mentioned there were people with theories (most likely about how he was still good but that was never said) and JK's response was "cling to some desperate hope" So perhaps thats a clue that the Snape is good thing is just not going to happen.

I think my favorite thing in the whole book is still the Lupin/Tonks thing. That was amazing.

I thought it was cool too. You're right the movies are off alot, but I still think they have a different kind of appeal. I still like them alot.

If I was JK Rowling, I would toy with peoples' minds about spoilers. It would be so fun. I'm not going to give up home just because she said. I so don't want Dumbledore to have been so very very wrong about him.

Oh yeah, someone earlier said they liked Snape all through the rest of them. How can you? I have never liked Snape, it's really been more of a pity for him that made me not hate him.

i thought the tonks/lupin thing was the best ever but i was talking with a friend and i told her and she was like 'WHAT thats not a good thing at all!!! so random' and plus i think ginny/harry will last too and she went 'ehhhhh it was cute and all but not meant to last'. but she thinks hermione + ron will go all the way. wtf?

My first thought is that R.A.B is Regulus.. mainly because that was the only name I could remember that fit. I seemed to have forgotten everything from book 5, which is weird, because I remember all the other ones.

This'll make a great movie. Especially when Harry casts that spell on Malfoy..

Regulus had an uncle Alphard, so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to say that might be his middle name.

i remember when i was going ':OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO' when i realized wut the initials stood for on the prophesy, BEFORE i finished the book. you know.. the APWBD and the SPT.

RAB was on the prophecy? Why? It concerns Harry and Voldemort.

I still think Harry and Ginny will get back together. She has red hair, Lily had red hair, how cute. And Ron and Hermoine, oh yeah. Totally all the way.

Soooooo many shippers are completly pissed at this book for all the relationships the occured. I mean, they think the entire book was ruined because of Harry/Ginny and that JKs ruined the entire series.
I think these people have just like...read too many fanfics or something and taked the things they've read as true. I sort of want to slap these people and tell them that the book is the real thing and everything else is wrong! But thats a little mean.
I have to admit that I'm not a fan of the Harry/Ginny thing they have going on mainly because Ginny annoys me. I honestly can't figure out why though. I should like her, because shes tough and she stands up for herself and she is a very likable character. Except I don't like her. When you think about it though, Harry and Ginny do make a good match for each other. Better then Harry/Cho anyways.

I also found a complete newfound respect for Fleur in the end when she freaks out over Molly thinking she was superficial. That was a great moment. I didn't think Fleur had it in her.


I was also thinking about the Smith connection, and I have no idea what it means. Given, Smith is a common name so it woudn't terribly surprise me if they were completly unreleated...but it would be strange for an author to do that. The think is, JK once made that mistake by naming a guy "Mark Evans" in passing. He had no relation to the story whatsoever but people jumped on him because they thought he was related to Lily, and that ended up being a complete accident. So who knows really.

Does anyone have a newer copy of Goblet of Fire? I have a hardcover copy when the book first came out and I've been wondering about the mistake of the order of the ghosts. At the end when Voldie and Harry have their wands locked together and Voldies spells start happening in reverse and all the people he's killed start coming out, apparently a mistake was made. In my copy of the book James comes out of the wand before Lily does. I always assumed that ment something and it was a big clue because obviously that ment Lily died before James did which is not what we were told at all. But someone told me that it was a mistake and it has been switched in the newer books. Does anyone know what thats all about?
