I think it's ridiculous because its so stupid!
Those evil atheists!
Do people actually feel that way? I'm totally chill with atheists(Why wouldn't someone be?!). Yay for religious freedoms!

Yes. People really feel that way.

Actually, as recently as a few months ago, at work one of my co-workers called another of my co-workers an athiest to screw with her. Not only was it used as an insult, but it worked and the one who got called it was fuming mad.

I sat there quietly.

Believe that God can exist with many different faces all at one time.

Never truer lyrics.

Why isn't it strange for athiests to be tagged as a minority? Maybe cause they are a minority and are looked down on for not believing in God there? Peoples values and cultures change depending on where you are. What may seem strange to you may be completley normal there. Not that the word "normal" should be taken to mean it's acceptable. I just mean that might be the way that people feel there.

I'm asking why she thinks it is not strange that athiests are the most distrusted group in the states. I'm well aware they are a minority. It's not like I'm trying to offend anyone here. I'm just asking a honest question.

Wow.
I seriously had no idea that went on seriously. Here, I have never, ever heard that. Ever. It is rare people even talk about religion in public, atleast in BC, and to be an atheist is not an insult here either :freak: . That's really, really weird to me.

Yeah, exactly. In Saskatoon, talking religion is reserved for church. There are more youth proclaiming they are athiest than there are youth claiming to be Christian, in my experience.

Well, it all depends on where the survey was taken. If it was anywhere in the so-called "bible belt," I'm not surprised by the results at all.

I am, however, surprised by Nikki's story. I could see that happening in a Catholic school or something, but at work? o_O

It didn't find it strange either. Unfortunately.

Last year I was traveling in the US with two colleagues. We were in a casual restaurant (recommended by the hotel). Most of the people there seemed to have come from church, and we were in jeans having brunch. At the buffet table one of the guys in our group was approached by a man who asked why we were dressed down on the Lord's day. He responded that we were traveling and were leaving town that day. The man's response was 'that's no excuse for not attending church here and for dressing like that on Sunday, what are you a bunch of atheists?!"

Yes, that was quite the experience :freak:

A little late on that one :P Music play back on cell phones is a huge deal these days. Considering Apple has a firm hold on the electronic music business and has already marketed iTunes with other cell phones, there is really no reason why they would not build their own. It really is the perfect next step for them. If the "iPhone" is a success then Apple will have a strangle hold on the two have items of most teens today.

I have never been to a bible belt in the US, but I sure have in Canada and i've never encountered anything anti atheist. Infact, I can say i've had quite a few anti-christian/religion public encounters in my lifetime, but never that of atheism. Here, it's like being atheist is cool.

I can't imagine anti-atheism :freak:

Pill-popping society fouling our water, official says

"Birth control pills, cancer drugs and a host of other pharmaceuticals that people flush down the drain every day are showing up in our drinking water, says Gord Miller, Ontario's environmental commissioner"

Well that's scary. Not surprising... but scary.

Why would people flush them? :wtf:

Pfft. People flushing pills isn't the problem. If fact, there is hardly any evidence to suggest that the general population is causing any harm that way. The problem is pharmaceutical companies dumping their expired/defective products. Mass dumpings of chemicals does have a harmful effect on the environment.
