I'm quite content with tonight's results. This will be a test for the Conservative party that could make or break future elections. If they fail to work with the other parties, I don't think Canadians will re-elect them into a position of power. With that I am somewhat displeased that the Liberals won as many seats as they did. The fact that they can run a brutal election after years of scandal and misuse of power and still garner roughly 100 seats, tells me that Canadians are rather weak towards what they expect out of their leaders.

If anything, I would have preferred another ten seats go to the Tories rather than the Liberals. This could have been the election that scared the Liberals shitless and produced greater leadership in the future. But it looks like we're in for another decade of poor leadership.

As for the "fear vs. hope" issue, last election Martin used a fear tactic on Canadians scaring them into voting against the Conservatives. This time, the Tories (and the NDP) ran a pretty positive campaign filled with hope for the future despite the Liberals re-use of the fear tactics. Therefore, the NDP and Tories used "hope for the future if you vote for us," while the Liberals used "fear for the future if you vote for them."

Jer was there when they showed George's group of "who's who" in Canada. You could see him in the initial shot of George before he walked over to Matt. I think it was rather pathetic that they had many of these people together. I would have liked to see a far smaller and more select panel of politically conscious individuals than hear Melissa Auf Der Maur claim Harper is Bush. It is no wonder people don't take musicians/actors/anyone in the public seriously when they open their yap.

i'm from calgary southwest. yup. i have to say, election hype is fun, even when you know you're gonna be disappointed. it's like cheering for the leafs. you get used to it.

I'm frustrated with an election system where the Bloc gets 51 seats with 10.5% of total votes, and the NDP gets 29 seats with 17.5% of total votes.

you do have a point cause now the conservatives really need to prove themselves. however the problem is that since it's a minority government they can't do much and of course they're not gonna do anything drastic because they want a majority government for the next election. i can see them doing good right now and bringing around good change and gaining the trust of people. then as soon as they win the next election with a majority government... it'll be really hard to get them out of power and i fear what kind of long term changes they are capable of making.
