Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.

And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

Well, a guy I've known for about 10 years died from being hit in the chest with a soccer ball, as if that in itself wasn't bad enough I watched as that his family was torn apart from it, I watched as my friends were torn apart by that. A lot of personal shit which doesn't concern you people, oh and my friends dad is in Sri Lanka to top it off. I'm entitled to say that I felt that 2004 was shitty, please do not tell me what I can't comment that I felt it wasn't a good year.

You don't find your way, the way finds you...

Tempt the fates, beware the smile
It hides all the teeth, my dear,
What's behind them...

So glad you could stay
Forever

He steps between the trees, a crooked man
There's blood on the blade
Don't take his hand

You warm by the firelight, in twilight's blue
Shadows creep & dance the walls
He's creeping too..

So glad you could stay

But I've been alive at the end of the past 28 years too. I'm just saying that this year has either been the shittiest or 2nd shittiest of them all. I know I have lots of things to be grateful for too, but who are you to say that I can't comment on that fact and hope that 2005 will be better? (or Rusty too for taht matter since your comment was directed at him)

yet YOU didn't die in the tsunami or because of war or disease... not every year is going to be as pleasant as others, but Maria's right, you're alive and that's something you should be grateful for, even if it was shittier than other years, it's not half as bad as a lot of people have it, but we're all really selfish and take life for granted way too often.

Yeah, I gotta agree. Being alive is like, the greatest gift of them all.

Jesus, now I feel like Hallmark.
But its true
Alot of bad shit happens to people, thats completely out of control, but you just gotta look on the brightside. Even if their doesnt seem to be one.

I don't know how saying '2004 was shit I hope 2005 is better' implies that we're taking life for granted. I know for sure that what's happened to me this year means that I'm definitely not taking it for granted at all any more.

Being alive doesn't mean it has to be a good existance.

Goodbye you liar,
Well you sipped from the cup but you don't own up to anything
Then you think you will inspire
Take apart your head
(and I wish I could inspire)
Take apart your demons, then you add it to the list.

Very True, for those who live in war ravaged or poverty and disease filled countries, or perhaps being incarcerated your entire life, or perhaps having a really bad disability, but for those of us who are priveleged to live in a good country, are healthy and can go to school, get an education, work, start a family, WHATEVER,

we have no right to say it's not a good existence, doing so is extremely selfish and shallow minded.

Judging someone else's life that you aren't living is also very narrow minded.

Definitely. You can't make judgements about other people's lives that you don't live.

I don't know about Rusty but it just seemed like Sooz is only hoping for a better future. I don't know much about what she's been through, but I can assume a bit from what she's said, and even if she isn't poverty stricken or stuck in a third world country, she's had it tough in a different way.

And not everyone is grateful to be alive.

I am though :)

You know, normally I'd agree with something like that.

But lets, for example take the situation that Rusty had mentioned that a lot of people experienced this year where we knew someone who died.
I don't live in a war torn country or fall under any of the catigories that you mentioned, so when I reflect upon this year and think of all the people that arn't here anymore am I just supposed to say "Well jeez...I'm glad it was them instead of me!"

I understand that being thankful for the circumstances we live in is important, but thats not really what I was refering to. When we look back and reflect upon something and realize that it was an unhappy period...that means it was an unhappy period. If it was a crappy year it was a crappy year. Thats based on emotional opinion that won't change when you say that it could have been worse.

If anything I think it was a pretty inconciderate to say that because you don't have any obvious hardships in your life, you're shallow for saying that the year was not great.

Actually "Good existence" has nothing whatsoever to do with the year 2004.

I meant it's selfish to look negatively at life and so many people do that, to say their life sucks when it's really not all that bad. It won't be the best, other people will have better lives, but others will have worse ones too, the only thing is, if you ever meet some of these people who have really really bad lives, in these poverty stricken countries, most of them are a lot happier and grateful for what they have, we the priveleged are a lot more selfish when it comes to realizing how lucky we are to have the life and surroundings we have. And just to be clear, two people close to me died this year, a friend and a relative, and a great aunt of mine has throat cancer, but I'm not going to go and say that I don't appreciate life and what I have or the moments I've had with those people either. I don't feel sorry for myself, though sadened by many things that happen in life, not just to me, but others too. A lot of people can choose to enjoy the good parts of life, even though everyone, not just them have a lot of bad in that life also, if people want to say their life sucks and live in misery or believe that their life overall isn't a "good existence" then that's being selfish, that's all I was saying.

All we were saying that 2004 was shitty, because it had a lot of bad times in it. We aren't saying that life sucks. We just said that in general it was a pretty bad year. If someone posts about having a shitty day nobody gets upset. Why should you get upset if someone posts and says that 2004 sucked and hopes 2005 will be better.
