Thank you for the piece on Ann Coulter and co. One only hopes that they speak for a small minority.I read something very disturbing in the weekend paper. Two American university profs are now teaching at McMaster because they were seen as unpatriotic when they wrote something about The Dumbing of America. Apparently it is in the interest of business in a consumer society to have an uneducated majority of people. They are easier to manipulate! University education is becoming so expensive, only a few will be able to afford it. Another point was that business puts money into athletic scholarships, not academic ones.So it looks like we are living in trying times and we'll have to put up with a lot of ignorance coming from accross the border. I feel really sorry for the americans that disagree with the present situation but can't speak up out of fear. The McCarthy era revisited?

I wish that they didn't cut out how Carrolyn Parrish responded, I know her really well, i bet she just told the person off or totally made them seem like an idiot...did she?
EDIT: McCarthey era was when the Americans (and Canadians to an extent) were all paranoid about the threat of communism, so they got this general (i think) to set up an organization (i think it was titled the "Commitee of UnAmerican Affairs) that basically ratted out people who they believed were Commies...some of tehse people were like Arthur Miller and Lucile Ball. it was nothing more than a witch hunt.
it was an age of paranoia and fear. YAY i actually paid attention in English class
You guys should realize that those people are ALWAYS idiots.

It's hard not to take what most Neo-Cons say about Canada and not be insulted. It's hard to to be insulted by sweeping generalizations about Canada.
Anyways, i understand what you mean Nikki. You obviously do not fall into the groups that we speak of. When we're talking about negatives of America just assume we're talking about the Republican Majority and Admin unless stated otherwise. We obviously realize that all of America isn't evil, most of our media good and bad comes from America. We know a lot more about America then most American's realize, including the diffrent groups of thought.

The thing is, it's different when ignorant crap comes out of some idiot on TV's mouth than when it's your friends on a messageboard. Stings a lot more when people you consider friends say things.

It's already been said that we're not referring to you or your fellows.
I'm not even sure where in this thread we generalized American's.
And if we did it's just because it's common habit to refer to them as American's considering the majority or them are. If you know that what we say is not dicrected at the liberals then take no offence because it's obviously not involving people like yourself.

Tell me.. how is what you guys are saying any different than Ann Coulter? If Ann followed up her statements with, "Keep in mind, I don't mean ALL Canadians.. just the left-leaning ones." .. which actually she sort of did:
Yes, but no. All I want is the western portion, the ski areas, the cowboys, and the right-wingers.
Does this all of a sudden make her arguments justified? If not, why does it justify your comments?
I have to agree with you there Corey. There is far too much over-generalization in this thread.

As do Canadians, or so that's the impression that I get from some people.
