The original is a timeless classic!!!

Like Shaft!

The original is amazing. It works on multiple levels. It's funny for kids but there are tons of jokes that only adults would get.

It would've been even better had Shaft been in it!

The original was so far from the book that you can't even say that making another movie based off the book would be remaking the original movie.

I rest my case.

Exactly. You say there's no flaw in the original, but there is. As a movie it's good, but as a representation of the book, it stinks. The point of the new movie is to make a movie based on the book, not one based on the first movie.

EDIT: That "exactly" was clearly to Andrea, not Lando.

I don't know if some of the things that happened in the book are appropriate for a children's movie... I mean you'll give it an AA rating just for the scene with Veruca Salt getting mauled by the squirels in the nut room.

Sorry guys, maybe it's just me and my attachment to the original version, but I'm pretty well against a remake no matter who's in it or who makes it.

But this isn't a remake! This is a movie based on the book. And it's probably not a children's movie.

Also, what constitutes being inappropriate for children today is DRASTICALLY different than it was when the book came out.

No, it's not a remake. It is another adaptation of the original book that is supposed to be truer to what was actually written. How many movies have been made about, say... Snow White? Are any of them remakes of each other? No. This's the same situation.

And, considering they were considering Marilyn Manson for the lead, I'm definitly going to assume that this is a more adult version of the book.

meh just my opinion guys, sorry. You have every right to see the movie and I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
