i live in Canada's 3rd largest city. i only lock my doors right before i go to bed. (and yeah, of course if I leave to go out, too.)

when i lived in florida, our doors we're ALWAYS locked.
when we moved to canada, we would leave our doors unlocked, even while on vacation.

both my best friends came from big cities before they moved here and keep their doors locked while they're home. To me that's just nuts, and most of the people I know here don't do that.
my door is never ever locked, except at night. even if i go out for a bit, i usually won't bother locking the door. Hell, during the summer, every door/window in my house is wide open, and we don't particularily care who comes in lol. hyperbole of course, but we do tend to have a walk-right-in policy in my house.

My mom constantly locks the doors, and windows and practically anything else that can be locked. She is paranoid, she doesn't even like me walking the down the street really. Personally I don't see the need it's safe and cozy here.

Well growing up, we never locked our doors when we were home. For the longest time, we didn't even lock them at night. Just when we left the house. And we left a key right outside the door. I'm pretty sure everybody in town knew where it was too.

us too! we still have the key beside the door, but in a slightly different place than before.

oh yeah and on a side note. I try to lock my door all the time, because I sleep into the afternoon and my grandma and grandpa will come over and open up the door when no one else is home and i don't know what they're doing!

Heck, some of the residents' backyards out west are bigger than New Jersey.
