Anyway, as I said up there ^ somewhere, I'm gonna start donating now that I have a job and enough money to do so.
I was hoping to donate to a charity that feeds hungry children all over the world, but the only ones I can find seem to have a Christian agenda... and, with apologies to any of the Christians on here, but as an atheist, I don't really like supporting that aspect of the charities.
Anyone have any that feed kids with none of that side religious stuff?
Oh, and here's a wonderful site I looked for because I really don't like blindly donating:
http://www.charitynavigator.org/
I dislike that the American Cancer Society only has 2 stars, but it still seems to be the best general cancer charity, and I'm familiar with it. Anyone have any better? (This one looks pretty good and it got 4 stars: http://www.nationalcancercoalition.org/ ... I've never heard of it before, though... any thoughts?)

Well in Canada we have World Vision, which is where you adopt the child and pay for them monthly(which I am assuming you mean by feed the kids). I don't know if you can do it from America, and I know they don't have an american branch.
There's always UNICEF. It's through my beloved UN and it always gets to the children.

sinead
Worldvision do stuff here too, so I expect they'd have a US branch too. I looked into doing that, but it's more expensive than I'd expected and more than I was willing to pay given I have a few others I donate to too. Also, the money doesn't actually go to the child or their family specifically but to various projects in their community.
I'm afraid I don't know too much about American charities so I can't help any more

Open your eyes to nights and days, you close them up and float away
and somehow inbetween you've got to master lying to yourself
you back the cause, get out of school, you get a job, the job gets you
and somehow every day you end up serving somebody else
now if that ain't panic that you're feeling, then you damn well better start
you can drive it into that head of yours with the hammer in your heart.
And it's alriiiiiiiight now, take the world and make it yours again.

Well, the charities for feeding children that I was looking into are more like... you help put some money in and they use everyone's money together to buy huge amounts of food at what essentially are like orphanages overseas... though not all the kids have lost their parents.
These are the two I liked, but when you look into them deeper, they're Christian charities:

I support the following charities regularly:
Cancer Research UK - www.cancerresearch.org.uk - I'm going to volunteer for them too once I've done with being ill.
CancerBACUP - www.cancerbacup.org.uk
Amnesty International - www.amnesty.org.uk
The Peace Hospice (the hospice in the town I live in) - www.peacehospice.org.uk
Now I've added:
MacMillan Cancer Relief - http://www.macmillan.org.uk/ - as well as giving them some money every month, they have regular survey things on different aspects of having cancer so they call me up and I answer questions.
WWF - http://www.wwf.org.uk - I sponsor a <a href="http://www.wwf.org.uk/adoption/index.asp#Etin" target="_blank"> Monkey</a> <3
I was looking into adding a children's society too, but I never decided on one.
And I send stuff to Oxfam for recycling which they use to raise money - every time a CMer sends me something with a sexy foreign stamp on it gets added to the pile of stamps I'm saving up to send them and they get my old printer cartridges as well.

I donate on a regular basis to:
-the Toronto Humane Society http://www.torontohumanesociety.com.html
-United Way of Peel Region http://www.unitedwaypeel.org/
I volunteer at:
-Eden Food Bank http://edenfoodbank.org/
-Peel Children's Aid http://www.peelcas.org/home/index.aspx
-Armagh (pronounced Ar-mah), a shelter for survivors of domestic violence
And I was voted this year's Vice Chair of a volunteer board of directors... we raise over $25,000 per year and spend the funds on various projects in our community (some of our key partners in the community are Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, Junior Achievement, Armagh, other domestic violence shelters, and the Salvation Army). We're in the news all the time with photos and stories about the projects we do. This volunteer organization is internal to my company, and is one of the main reasons I chose to work here.
