The closest thing the Queen has to any control in Canada is Adrienne Clarkson and her rubber stamp and cute hats

Canada's not a colony, we are a country. Just every law we pass has to be stamped by mrs. clarkson (i met her husband by the way. he just talked about wine in french to a bunch of 15 year olds). I forget what we're actually called, but something about us being a real country that has a fiurative head (queen). *shrug*
After wwII, many of the countries that were once colonies of the european powers become 'protectorates', which meant that they had more independance, but were still under control of their respective colonizers. They established dates by which time the countries would become truly independant. After that time, which was usually 100 years+ from when they had originally taken over, they withdrew, but kept contacts. After that many years, the language has made it's mark, and a lot of the european people considered it their home. (south africa by examble) Because they never had a revolution to throw out england, france ect, they are still in their 'empires', so to speak.

I came out of the closet and wrote:Eh... for clarification purposes, if you participate in the Commonwealth Games, you're still a nation under British rule (technically even if not in practice). Makes you still a colony of sorts Yes I do understand you are a country, just like Australia. I was a little rushed when I typed it up.
